NVIDIA has announced its SHIELD gaming console at the Game Developers Conference (GDC). The console is powered by NVIDIA Tegra X1 processor with 256-core Maxwell architecture GPU, 64-bit CPU and runs on Android TV OS. It will have over 50 Android titles optimized for SHIELD, including Crysis 3, Doom 3: BFG EditionT and Borderlands: TPS. This is the the world’s first Android TV console, which delivers video, music, apps and games to the home, says the company. Nvidia holding an event on March 3, successor of Shield Tablet expected

Nvidia has started sending out press invites for an event on March 3 where it will unveil a product that the company claims is “five years in making”. The invite reads that the product will “redefine the future of gaming” and the event will take place in San Fransisco.

It looks like Nvidia is working on a successor for the Shield tablet. As per a latest report, the tablet will come equipped with Tegra X1 chipset that is the successor to the Tegra K1.

Nvidia Tegra X1 Mobile Super Chip with 256-Core Maxwell GPU announced

NVIDIA has announced the Tegra X1, the company’s latest mobile processor at the International CES 2015 in Las Vegas. It is the successor of last year’s Tegra K1 chip and is based on NVIDIA Maxwell architecture. This 8 CPU cores the includes four ARM Cortex A57 CPU cores and four ARM Cortex A53 cores. It has 256-core Maxwell GPU that promises much better GPU performance than Tegra K1 at the same power of less than 10 watts. NVIDIA already announced that the Shield Tablet would be updated to Android 5.0 (Lollipop) soon. Now it has announced that the update would be available as early as this November, so we can expect the roll out to begin in the next few weeks. It has also released a video that shows the new Android 5.0’s Material UI along with Material redesign for NVIDIA’s Shield Hub and Dabbler apps. Pre-order for Nvidia Shield Tablet with 4G LTE and 32GB storage goes live

Nvidia Shield tablet was announced in July this year with only a 16GB and 32GB variant. At that time, the company had said that it will make the 32GB variant available later this year and now it has gone live for pre-order.

Nvidia accidentally confirms HTC Nexus 9 in legal docs

Reports and leaks about the HTC Nexus 9 have been looming the online world for a long time now. Today, NVIDIA may have inadvertently revealed and confirmed the existence of the Nexus 9 tablet. A leaked court documents from NVIDIA in which they claim Qualcomm and Samsung are infringing on their GPU patents not only makes mention of a Nexus 9, but reveals the manufacturer Google will be partnering with HTC for the same.

Nvidia files patent lawsuit against Samsung and Qualcomm for patent infringement

Nvidia has sued Samsung and Qualcomm for infringing 7 of its patents.  The maker of graphics chips and processors  is asking the International Trade Commission (ITC) and in the U.S. District Court in Delaware to confirm that, ban devices, and award them damages.

Nvidia unveiled Shield Tablet, the company first Tegra K1 powered tablet as the successor of Tegra Note last month. We brought you the unboxing of the tablet earlier this month, here we have its benchmarks. It is powered by a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor with ARM Cortex A15 cores clocked at 2.22 GHz and 192-core Kepler GPU.  It has a 8-inch (1920×1200 pixels) display and runs on Android 4.4 KitKat. Nvidia details the 64-bit Tegra K1 “Denver”, promises PC-class performance

Nvidia announced their latest mobile chipset Tegra K1, sometime in January. This new chip, with its 192 core Kepler GPU was touted to be one of the best when it comes to gaming. We have started to see the results in devices like the Nvidia Shield Tablet and the Xiaomi Mi Pad, but announced alongside the normal 32-bit Quad Core K1 was the Dual Core 64-bit chip codenamed “Denver”. The 64-bit variant has now been detailed by Nvidia, and they say, with its high single core throughput, the chip will be able to offer PC-class performance on mobile, while sipping lesser power than usual. The company has also said that the chip will be ready for Android L, which will make things interesting.

The Project Shield was Nvidia’s first portable gaming project, which turned out to be really interesting in terms of idea and concept, never took off as the company had imagined. The GPU manufacturer is back with a sequel, but with a different approach this time. The Shield 2, or rather, the Nvidia Shield Tablet, is the company’s latest unbundled approach to portable gaming. Acknowledging the reality of limited controller support in Android games and the need to cater to a wider audience, the company has gone for a powerful tablet + gamepad combo. The gamepad ships separately, but even standalone, the tablet is plenty powerful and can interface with your current controller setup if needed. Touting a 192 core desktop class Kepler GPU inside, the Shield tablet surely has the potential to change mobile gaming, but before we find out if that’s true, here’s an unboxing of the retail package, with a quick rundown of the hardware and the software –

NVIDIA Shield tablet with Tegra K1 goes official, starts at $299

After months of leaks and reports, NVIDIA has finally launched its Shield tablet which is specifically aimed at gamers. Powered with Tegra K1 quad core processor, the tablet sports 8 inch Full HD display can support full 1080p high-definition or 4K UltraHD games. It has 2GB of RAM, 5MP front and rear cameras, a 10 hour battery, and support for pressure-sensitive input with NVIDIA’s DirectStylus 2 device.
