Earlier this week LG confirmed that it will unveil the V20 smartphone, successor of the V10 in September. Today it has sent out invites for the V20 announcement in San Francisco on September 6th. LG Electronics just announced it will unveil its V20 smartphone in the ‘V series’ and the successor of last year’s V10 smartphone in September. It has worked closely with Google so that V20 will run Android 7.0 (Nougat), making it one of the first phones from OEMs to run the latest version of Android. LG hit a home run with the G2 which dropped the Optimus branding from its name but in turn received commercial and critical success. Up until then, LG had almost always been in Samsung’s shadow since their Galaxy S lineup of devices especially had been better offerings and even the Optimus Vu lineup that was launched to compete with the Galaxy note lineup was underwhelming. The G2 went head to head with the Galaxy S4 and although the S4 was a great smartphone, the G2 did improve on almost every aspect possible.

LG Electronics has reported revenues of 14 trillion won (US$ 12.05 billion) in Q2 that ended June 30, 2016, which is up 0.6% compared to the same quarter last year with operating profit of 584.6 billion won (US$ 503.10 million), up 140% from the same period the previous year, mainly due to strong growth in Home Appliance & Air Solution and Home Entertainment sectors. Both the X5 and X Skin smartphones are powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core SoC, run Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) and have 4G LTE connectivity. The X Skin was announced for LG U + last month.
