BBM Channels is a forum for active, real conversations between people, brands and communities. BBM now available on iPad and iPod Touch

BlackBerry has just pushed an update for the BBM app on both iOS and Android. While the Android app brings with it some bug fixes, performance improvements, most of the feature additions lie on the iOS side of things. The biggest change with the update is that BBM is now supported on non cellular enabled iOS devices. This means that you can now install BlackBerry Messenger on your iPad as well as the iPod Touch. BlackBerry abandons deal with Fairfax, Thorsten Heins gets replaced by John S Chen as interim CEO

We’d reported some time back that BlackBerry was all set to be bought over by a consortium led by Fairfax Financials. The company today announced that it is backing away from the deal and will instead switch over to Plan B. This is likely due to the inability to raise a higher a bid for the company which is suspected to be the aim altogether behind the Fairfax bid. BlackBerry is now looking to raise $1 Billion in cash and will be replacing CEO Thorsten Heins. John S Chen, former CEO of Sybase will be taking over as interim CEO while the board looks for a replacement. The company will raise the money with a private placement of convertible debentures and its largest investor, Fairfax Financials will take up $250 million of the debentures. There were rumors that Qualcomm amongst others was about to bid for the dying company but it looks like that deal didn’t go through either. The next few months should be very interesting as we keep a track of what exactly will happen to the iconic brand. BlackBerry is expected to burn through its $2.6 billion cash pile in about 18 months.

BBM for Android and iPhone brings over 20 million new users in the first week

BlackBerry has announced that there are 20 million new users of BlackBerry Messenger (BBM), a week after its roll out of Android and iPhone apps. Last week BlackBerry revealed they saw more than 10 million downloads after 24 hours they resumed the launch of BBM for Android and iPhone. Totally BBM has 80 million monthly active users, says BlackBerry. The app topped as free overall app in 35 countries on Google Play and in 107 countries in the Apple iTunes Store. It has a 5-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) Supe rAMOLED display at 295 ppi, powered by a 1.7 GHz dual-core Qualcomm  Snapdragon S4 Pro (MSM8960T) processor and runs on the latest version of the BlackBerry 10.2. It has a 8 megapixel auto-focus camera with BSI sensor, F2.2 lens, LED flash and 1080p full HD video recording and a 2 megapixel fixed-focus HD front-facing camera. BlackBerry rolled out BlackBerry OS 10.1 maintenance release update for both the BlackBerry Z10 and Q10 devices back in July, now they have announced that the the BlackBerry 10.2 would roll out for these devices starting this week bring a lot of new features including BlackBerry Priority Hub, BlackBerry Natural Sound for BBM and hundreds of new improvements. BBM to resume roll out to iPhone and Android today but new users will be on a waiting list

It’s back. The BlackBerry Messenger, fondly known as BBM faced some intense server loads thanks to a pre-release leak on Android, which forced the company to postpone the much awaited launch. After a long wait, it looks like the company is finally up to speed and ready to launch on both iOS and Android today, resuming where it left off on iOS and completely starting afresh on Android. According to the official blog, you should be hopefully seeing the BBM app popup on the App Store, Google Play and the Samsung Apps Store any time in the next few hours. We’ll posting the links here once it goes live. Meanwhile you can check how it looks in an iPhone, in our hands on post that we did earlier.

Evernote for BlackBerry 10 updated with Checkboxes, Image and Audio support

Evernote has updated the BlackBerry 10 app with a lot of new features including checkboxes, improved image support and audio recording. The new Checkbox option lets you add Checkboxes in notes and also lets you uncheck the items. The checkbox option is present above the keyboard when you start editing a note. No you can attach images and audio recording to your notes. BlackBerry announces Cloud-based mobility management solution for Android, iOS and BlackBerry devices

BlackBerry has announced multi-platform cloud-based enterprise mobility management (EMM) solution to manage users and apps on Android, iOS and BlackBerry. Announced at the Gartner Symposium ITxpo 2013, this is aimed at both business and end user needs. This doesn’t require any IT experience, servers, or software, says BlackBerry. The company already launched BlackBerry Mobile Fusion, multi-platform Mobile Device Management (MDM) for BlackBerry , Android and iOS devices, and recently released BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 Version 10.1 for Business users. BlackBerry in talks with Cisco, Google, Intel amongst others, faces class action suit

BlackBerry might have announced its proposed deal with Fairfax Financial but till the time the final papers are signed, the company is free to explore other options and it is doing just that. Reuters claims that BlackBerry is having discussions with Google, Intel, LG, Samsung and even the likes of Cisco and SAP who are interested in the company’s patent portfolio and servers. If rumors are to be believed, none of the companies are very interested in BlackBerry’s devices business. The deal is expected to be closed on November 4th with BlackBerry being sold to a consortium led by Fairfax Financial for $4.7 billion meanwhile the Canadian company is fishing for better offers.

LinkedIn acquired Pulse, a news reader app back in April, and this is the first major update after the acquisition. BlackBerry Z10 price temporarily drops to Rs. 29990 in India

BlackBerry India known for offers on their devices during the festive season. We have already seen price cuts and free goodies for the PlayBook, now the company has slashed the price of the BlackBerry Z10 temporarily. The BlackBerry Z10 was launched in India at a hefty price tag of Rs. 43490 back in February. Recently the company announced EMI schemes for the Z10 and up to Rs. 11000 discount on the Z10 in exchange for old phones. BlackBerry believes that the price cut will help the brand to reach out to more number of potential customers.
