BBM Voice to be available on Android, iOS starting February

BlackBerry’s popular instant messaging service, BBM, introduced voice calls support early last year to help it compete with more feature packed rivals. Alongside voice calls, it also brought in an interesting new Channels feature that lets users create groups to share content, location information. These features have so far been exclusive to BlackBerry devices.

We first spotted BBM Voice support for Android in the beta channels. Krishadeep Baruah, Senior Director of channel marketing in APAC for BlackBerry has now revealed that an update coming sometime next month will bring both the features to Android, iOS users. Revealed in an interview with the Times of India, Baruah also claims that video calling features too will be available across platforms later this year. BBM Voice will make it a compelling alternatives to the likes of Viber and Line given its sizeable userbase and popularity in India.

As the company’s market share drops, it aims to create new revenue streams through private BBM channels. The report goes on to state that Indian brands like Airtel, Cafe Coffee Day and Gaana.com have already launched their channels. Expect to see the application being updated sometime next month. Following the price cuts of the BlackBerry Z10 and the BlackBerry Q10 last year, BlackBerry has cut the price of the BlackBerry Q5 to Rs. 19,990 as a part of festive offer. The BlackBerry Q5 was launched in India back in July 2013 at a price tag of Rs. 24990. It packs a 3.1-inch (720 x 720 pixels) capactive touch screen IPS display at 330 PPI pixel density,  powered by a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor and runs on BlackBerry 10 OS.

Sony has launched Sony LIV, premium video-on-demand service for BlackBerry 10 smartphones. The Sony LIV app is available for BlackBerry Z10 and Z30 smartphones from the BlackBerry World. The app comes pre-loaded on Sony Smartphones and is also available on iPhone and Windows Phone 8 devices. It offers content from Sony TV channels such as Sony Entertainment Television, MAX, SAB, MIX, across various genres including, drama, comedy, thriller, reality shows and more. BlackBerry partners with Foxconn to produce affordable BlackBerry 10 devices

As sales plunge, BlackBerry has announced a new partnership with Foxconn to produce BlackBerry 10 devices. The five year partnership aims to launch the first device by March or April. The BlackBerry 10 based device will be introduced first in Indonesia. The company has also earmarked six or seven additional markets for the device.

BlackBerry opens its first Enterprise Solutions Centres in India in Mumbai and Gurgaon

BlackBerry today opened the first Enterprise Solutions Centers in Mumbai and Gurgaon in India. This will be the third country to roll-out a BlackBerry Enterprise Solutions Centre after US and UK. These centers will cater to the needs of enterprise customers and provide them with a walk-in experience of BlackBerry’s robust enterprise mobility management solutions including BES10, says the company. BlackBerry Messenger to come pre-loaded on LG smartphones

Micromax was the first company in India to pre-install BBM on all its Canvas smartphones in India. Now BlackBerry and LG have entered into a partnership to pre-load BlackBerry Messenger on all LG smartphones involving both standard and virtual preloading (using the LG App Manager). The LG G Pro Lite would be the first LG smartphone to offer BBM out-of-the-box. LG launched the G Pro Lite in India back in October. Looks like new G Pro Lite units would come pre-loaded with BBM. BlackBerry India has just announced that the BlackBerry Q10 would be available in India for Rs. 38,990 starting today, as a part of a limited period festive offer. The BlackBerry Q10 was launched in India back in June at a price tag of Rs. 44,990.
