Apple today introduced its new MacBook Air powered by the new M1 chip with 8-core CPU offering up to 3.5x faster performance than the previous generation and the 8-core GPU is up to 5x faster. ML workloads are up to 9x faster, and the chip’s storage controller and latest flash technology deliver up to 2x faster SSD performance. Apple just announced M1, the company’s first ARM-based SoC, also known as Apple Silicon designed specifically for the Mac, as expected. The company says that it is the most powerful chip it has ever created. It is the first chip for the PC to be built on 5-nanometer process technology, and has 16 billion transistors, the most Apple has ever put into a chip. One of Apple’s iPhone supplier, Pegatron Corp. in China was discovered to be in violation of Apple’s Supplier Code of Conduct and hence, Apple has halted their contracts with the supplier until corrective measures were taken. Pegatron Corp. was revealed to be falsifying paperwork to hide violations in a student worker program.

Last month, Apple announced a new ecosystem of charging accessories, collectively called MagSafe, along with their iPhone 12 series of smartphones. Apple has reported quarterly revenue of $64.7 billion, up 1% YoY, and set a new September quarter record. It posted net profit of $12.7 billion, down 7.29% YoY and quarterly earnings per diluted share of $0.73 for the financial year Q4 2020 that ended September 26, 2020. During earnings call Tim Cook said that Apple has achieved a new September quarter record, despite the delay in iPhone 12 launch during the quarter, and the ongoing impacts of COVID-19, including retail store closures.
Apple has released a new update for their video creation app Clips, bringing with it major changes for version 3.o. It features a newly redesigned interface, landscape orientation for the iPad, support for more aspect ratios, and also the ability to create and shoot create HDR videos from the iPhone 12 series.
One of Apple’s most successful products for Apple in recent times is their truly wireless AirPods product line. At the moment, Apple sells the cheaper 2nd generation Apple AirPods and the more expensive first generation AirPods Pro. Rumours have now sprung up, claiming that Apple has now begun the development process for the successor for both of these products.

Apple introduced its iPhone 12 series smartphones in India last week. Today the company has started pre-bookings for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro smartphones in the country online through Flipkart, Amazon.in, Apple India online store as well as Authorized Apple retailers offline. It will be available through 3500 retail locations across India starting, 30th October. In keeping with social distancing norms, customers who pre-book it offline will be given time slots to pick up their new iPhone from the store or can select to have it home delivered.
