Google is testing Task Mate app in India that lets you earn money by doing tasks

Google is reportedly beta testing a new app called Task Mate with select Indian users, with the idea of awarding users money for performing certain tasks. These tasks can include recording certain phrases, taking photos of businesses, etc. and the app will reward the user with real Indian rupees, which can be cashed out directly into a bank account.

Google completes global rollout of RCS messaging; end-to-end encryption coming soon

Google has slowly been rolling out their new chat features in Messages that is based on the open Rich Communication Services (RCS) standard over the past year now. They have finally finished the rollout globally and also has begun beta testing new features in the app such as end-to-end encryption.

Google finally brings Gmail, Drive and Fit iOS and iPad OS widgets; Calendar and Chrome widgets coming soon

With the launch of iOS 14 and iPad OS 14, Apple added support for a feature that existed previously in Android for many years — Widgets in the home screen. While many apps had widgets ready on the day of release, Google only had widgets made for Google Photos and YouTube Music. That is finally changing as Google has now released widgets for Gmail, Drive and Fit.

WhatsApp working on advanced wallpaper options, Read Later and more

WhatsApp has recently begun testing new features in their Beta channel for both iOS and Android. These include new advanced chat wallpaper options, a new screen called Read Later which is meant to replace Archived Chats, and the ability to mute videos before sending them.

Google Fit app update adds workout shortcuts, improved home page, weather screen updates and more

The Google Fit app for both Android, iOS and WearOS is receiving a new update that brings a bunch of new changes to the interface and some new features to keep up with the times. The home screen now shows information from connected apps along with new sharing capabilities and WearOS has new workout shortcuts along with updates to the weather screen and breathing exercises.

Google Meet for Workspace will now indicate when a participant raises their hand

Google is releasing a new update in Meet for their Workspace customers that will help reduce interruptions during video calls. Participants can now virtually raise their hands to notify the moderators that they would like to speak or have a query.

Zoom adds new security features to help prevent interference, trolls in virtual meetings

Zoom has had their fair share of security vulnerabilities when they shot to popularity during the start of the pandemic and since then, they have been working hard to add new features and secure their platform. Their latest update now adds the ability to suspend participant activities, gives participants a report button and notifies hosts of At-Risk meetings.

Instagram update adds Shops and Reels tab to the Home screen

Instagram has announced a new update to their app that brings a change to the Home screen, adding two new tabs – Reels and Shop. These changes come after Instagram decided to focus of them more when they noticed a surge in content made in Reels and increased traffic in Instagram Shop over the period of the pandemic.

Facebook brings Vanish Mode for disappearing messages to Messenger and Instagram

Lately Facebook has been focusing on bring some version of sending temporary messages feature in their various instant messaging services. Just last week, they added a feature called Disappearing Messages to WhatsApp and now they have announced a Vanish Mode for the Facebook Messenger, which will also come to Instagram soon. Google Photos announces end of free unlimited photo backups starting June 2021

For the past 5 years, Google account users have enjoyed the ability to store their photos and videos in high quality for free in Google Photos. That will not be the case anymore soon as Google has announced a change to their policy – photo and video backup will no longer be free starting June 1, 2021, and instead it will be counted against the 15GB quota that comes free with every Google account.
