Nokia 6 went on sale in India today for Rs. 14,999, exclusively on Amazon at 12PM today. HMD Global just announced that the phone sold out in less than a minute in the first flash sale, same thing that happened at the first sale in China. HMD global launched the Nokia 6 Android smartphone in India last month for Rs. 14,999. As promised, it has started registrations for the smartphone exclusively on Amazon.in. It has announced that only registered customers are eligible for sale and said that the phone will go on sale on August 23rd.
HMD Global introduced the Nokia 6 earlier this year and the phone started rolling out globally from Q2 and was launched in India recently. Now the smartphone is all set to launch in the U.S. next month. It has a lot of LTE bands but it has partial support for LTE on AT&T since it lacks Bands 29 and 30 and doesn’t support CDMA carriers like Sprint and Verizon. Nokia finally launched new Android smartphones at MWC 2017 in Barcelona including the Nokia 3,5 and 6 devices. We had a chance to speak to Ajey Mehta, India VP at HMD Global who shed light on the company’s India plans. HMD plans to manufacture these phones through Foxconn in India from day one. The new Nokia Android phones are expected to hit stores in India by June this year.
Soon after inking the deal with HMD global, the Finnish handset maker Nokia made its entry for the first time on the Android platform with Nokia 6, last month in China. HMD Global announced Nokia 6 last month in China as the first Nokia smartphone after it was granted exclusive global license to sell Nokia phones. Today it has announced the smartphone for global markets. Specifications are the same, including a 5.5-inch 1080p 2.5D curved glass display, Octa-Core Snapdragon 430 processor, 16-megapixel rear camera with phase-detection auto-focus (PDAF), 1.0um sensor, dual-tone LED flash and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera. We already know that HMD Global is going to introduce new Nokia Android smartphones at MWC 2017. Now, according to a latest report from Venturebeat, the company will launch three Android phones at the event in Barcelona at the end of this month.
While I was in the US recently , I had a chance to briefly use the Nokia 6 which is the first ever smartphone from HMD Global which calls itself the home of Nokia phones. The company is launching the Nokia 6 in China this month and expected to launch more devices at Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona next month. Nokia was once a house hold name in India and many other markets. Sadly the previous Nokia management never managed to release an Android smartphone as the company embraced Windows Phone from Microsoft. Post that Nokia was acquired by Microsoft and the company continued to release Lumia smartphones which failed to gain main stream adoption in a smartphone market dominated by Android phone makers and Apple’s iPhone. All that is going to change with HMD Global taking over the Nokia brand from Microsoft last year and the new entity is aiming to bring to the market what was once not possible under the previous entity.
