Google, Russia reach $7.8 million settlement in Android antitrust case

Google has reached a settlement with Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) agency in the two year Android antitrust case. In 2015, Russian search rival Yandex had complained that Google was abusing its position in the market by forcing Android devices to pre-install certain apps including its own search tool. Google invests in INDIGO undersea cable from Australia to Southeast Asia

Google is building a new international subsea cable system in Southeast Asia, called INDIGO. The new cable system will serve Google traffic between Australia and Asia, connecting Perth, Sydney and Singapore, with a branch to Jakarta.

Google has announced Pax, a Android Networked Cross-License Agreement with an aim to reduce patent infringement cases and patent threats. Under PAX, members grant each other royalty-free patent licenses covering Android and Google Applications on qualified devices. PAX means peace in latin.

Google is working on a social app that will allow users to edit and share photos in small groups, according to a latest report from TechCrunch. Earlier this week, Apple launched Clips video creation and sharing app for iPhone and iPad. The report says Google’s new app will come with some of the same features as Clips.
