Google’s Nexus program is aimed at providing an Android experience the way the California based company meant it to be. Now in its second iteration, the Nexus 7 manufactured by Asus is sharper, faster and just a bit more expensive. Does it still pack the same value and punch that made the original perhaps the best Android tablet on the market ? Read on to find out. Continue reading “Google Nexus 7 (2013) Review”
Rumours of a Motorola made Nexus device were ripe once Google acquired the mobile giant, but plans never solidified, citing reasons like “Google not impressed with Moto’s devices” etc. With LG taking charge of the program last year with the Nexus 4, Motorola was left to work on the Moto X, a Google inspired smartphone that is possibly the first device to come out of this acquisition. But this was no Nexus, it didn’t run the latest operating system nor updates will be pushed by Google, so yet again we were deprived of a Moto Nexus, but if recent rumours are to be believed, especially coming from a prolific tipster from Texas(where Motorola assembles its Moto X), the chances of Motorola making the next Nexus 5 device are rather high.

There was huge uproar after Google announced its plans to drop EAS support for all non-corporate GMail accounts, mainly because that affected Windows Phone, which has no in-built support for the new CardDAV and CalDAV technologies. Hence Microsoft and Google decided to extend the support for Windows Phone devices until July 31st, yesterday, a date from which devices without the GDR2 update would have stopped supporting syncing to Google servers. Thankfully, the companies have extended the date yet again, to December 31st, since most devices haven’t got the update yet.

Google announced the new Nexus 7 at an event in New York few hours back starting at $229 for the 16GB Wi-Fi model. It also comes in 32GB Wi-Fi model that costs $269. Google has also announced the 32GB model with global 4G LTE support at $349. The first Nexus 7 came only with 3G HSPA+ support that new Nexus 7 also comes with 4G LTE support apart from 3G HSP+. Since these support global LTE bands (700/750/800/850/1700/1800/1900/2100/2600 MHz) it will work on all the LTE networks other than the 2300 MHz TDD-LTE network.

Google’s financial results for Q2 2013 are out and the company has reported revenues of $14.11 billion which is an increment over the $12.21 billion it had reported last year for the same quarter. Net income too has gone up to reach $3.23 billion with earnings of $9.56 per share. The results missed predictions that revenues would touch $14.5 billion with an expectation of growth being 20 percent. Unfortunately this slightly missed estimates with actual growth being 19 percent YoY. Motorola was one of the arms at Google that resulted in losses with the company having cost $998 million. Motorola reported operating losses of $342 million which we guess can be attributed to the R&D efforts in place. Google’s stock closed 7.87 points down at 910.68. The company is scheduled to host an Android centric event later this month where it will show off the next version of its popular mobile operating system alongside refreshed hardware.

Seemingly controlled, yet another new Moto X leak has been let loose on the Internet. This time, it’s not the Google Chariman, but the Canadian carrier Rogers. In a “Tech Talk Experts” video, Rogers shows off the black Moto X, which very much looks like the Nexus 4, but shows off rather intriguing functionality. The Moto X is always listening to your voice for commands, just like the Google glass and will let you talk to it, without touching the phone. Much like the Microsoft Kinect on the Xbox One, Google Now always keeps its ears open for a specific command, in this case – “Ok Google Now”. A few more interesting features have been revealed, but watch the video first –

That will continue.”
