Google acquires mobile messaging and virtual assistant app Emu

Google has bought  messaging client Emu for an undisclosed sum. The messaging app that adds context to conversations will shut down on August 25th as a result of the acquisition.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition officially taken down from Play Store

Google is continuing to remove old Google Play Edition devices from the Play Store. Last month, it took down devices like Sony Xperia Z Ultra, LG G Pad 8.3 and HTC One (M7) from the Play Store. Today, Google has announced that it has dropped Samsung Galaxy S4 from the list as well.

Google is developing a Knowledge graph tool that pulls data from Wikipedia to create interactive timelines based on the item being searched.  The feature generates content from Wikipedia in a periodic manner about search queries.

New report puts more light on phablet sized Motorola Nexus ‘Shamu’

Yesterday, there were reports about Google and Motorola working on a large screen Nexus device that is code named Shamu. Today, a new report from The Information is adding more support to the previous report stating that the duo is in fact working on a “phablet sized device”.

Google Play Store for Android updated with Material Design UI

Google has started rolling out Material Design UI to Play Store. The version 4.9.13. of the Google Play Store on Android now gets Material Design inspired overhaul which gives app, game, and other listings a revamp. The update comes a week after screenshots of the Play Store redesign were leaked.

Google to stop touting games with in-app purchases as ‘free’

Google will stop labelling games with in app purchases as free. The move comes from the company after pressure from the EU. Starting in late September, games will no longer be termed as free if they include in-app purchases and that it will also require payment verification before each purchase.
