Apple iPhone 15 could continue to use Qualcomm 5G chips

Apple has reportedly hit a snag in their plans to use their in-house 5G modem chips for future iPhone models. Originally, the company would have used their own chip in the iPhone 15 series, however now it looks like they will continue to use Qualcomm’s 5G modem chips for one more year.

Twitter working on Safety Mode feature to auto-detect and block abusive tweets

During their 2021 Analyst Day presentation, the developers of Twitter revealed that they are working on a new feature for the platform called Safety Mode. There aren’t a lot of details about the feature but from the presentation, it can be inferred that this mode is designed to detect and remove abusive tweets.

Apple settles $18 million lawsuit over iPhone 4 FaceTime issue

Apple has agreed to settle a $18 million lawsuit that was filed over 3 years ago over its handling of FaceTime with users having an iPhone 4 or an iPhone 4s. The claimants argued that the company had disabled FaceTime in the older iPhone models as a cost saving measure in 2014.

Google hit with $57 million GDPR penalty by french watchdog CNIL

CNIL has issued a penalty of $57 million against Google for violating Europe’s strict new data privacy laws. The agency accuses Google of not fully disclosing to users how their personal data is collected nor how the data is eventually used. It further accuses Google of not properly obtaining user consent for showing them personalized ads.

Qualcomm granted preliminary injunction to ban sale and import of Apple iPhones in Germany

Qualcomm has announced that the District Court of Munich found that Apple is infringing Qualcomm’s intellectual property for power savings in smartphones and granted Qualcomm’s request for a permanent injunction, ordering Apple to cease the sale, offer for sale and importation for sale in Germany.

Apple iOS 12.1.2 brings bug fixes for eSIM on iPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max

Apple today has released the iOS 12.1.2 update two weeks after pushing out the 12.1.1 update and one week after Apple seeded the first iOS 12.1.2 beta to developers. Unlike the previous update, the iOS 12.1.2 is only available to iPhones and not iPads.
