Bharti Airtel, India’s largest telecom operator will sell 5 percent stake to Doha-based Qatar Foundation Endowment for $1.26 billion (~Rs. 6,800 crore) by issuing 199,870,006 new shares at a price of Rs. 340 apiece, according to a recent report from Economic Times. Bharti reported its 13th successive drop in quarterly profits yesterday, with a near 50 percent fall in profits compared with a year earlier. This move would ease the debt burden on Airtel. Instagram has updated the Android and iPhone apps to version 3.5 that brings the new Photos of You feature that would let you tag people to your photos. You can view all the photos you have been tagged in the Photos of You section on your profile. Once a person adds you, you’ll receive a notification and the photo will appear in your Photos of You. The Wynncom G58 has a 5-inch (480×800 pixels) capacitive touch screen IPS display, powered by a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor and has 3G support. The G51 comes with a 5-inch (480×800 pixels) capacitive touch screen display, powered by a 1 GHz dual-core processor, but comes only with 2G (EDGE) support. Samsung has officially launched the Galaxy Note 510, their latest tablet in India. It was first announced as the Galaxy Note 8.0 at MWC 2013, and it was unveiled in India as the Note 510 back in March. Samsung started taking pre-orders for the Galaxy Note 510 (GT-N51000) and it went on sale from the official eStore earlier this week. It has a 8.0-inch (1280 × 800 pixels) TFT display, powered by a 1.6 GHz quad-core processor and runs on Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean). It also comes with 3G support and voice calling. Huawei has confirmed that the company would launch the Ascend Mate in India soon priced under Rs. 30,000. Huawei unveiled the Ascend Mate along with the Ascend D2 earlier this year at the CES 2013. The Ascend Mate has a 6.1-inch 720p display, powered by a 1.5 GHz quad-core Hi-Silicon K3V2 processor and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) with Huawei’s EmotionUI 1.5 on top. It’s been barely a week since Samsung launched the Galaxy S4 in India and the device has already got a software update via OTA.The update brings stability improvements to the S4 and looks like an initial bug fix update.The phone is already running on Android 4.2.2 and this looks like a low level firmware update and not an OS update. Zync has launched the Quad 10.1, the company’s new Android tablet with a 10.1-inch (1920 x 1200) Full HD display. The company launched 3 new tablets, Dual 7.0, Quad 8.0 and Quad 9.7 tablets running Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) back in March. We revieed the Quad 9.7 that has a 9.7-inch display at a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels, similar to the iPad’s Retina’s display. The Zync Quad 10.1 is powered by a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). It has a 5-megapixel auto focus camera on the back and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. iBall Andi 5L, the company new Android smartphone in the Andi series is priced at Rs. 10,490 on online retail site Flipkart. This would be the company’s second Android smartphone with a 5-inch display after the Andi 5c that was released last August. Andi 5Li, an upgraded version of the Andi 5L has been spotted on the official iBall website. Both the Andi 5L and the 5Li would come with a 5-inch WVGA (480×800 pixels) display and powered by a dual-core 1GHz Cortex A9 processor. The Andi 5L runs on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and the Andi 5Li is expected to come with Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) on-board. These phones would also have dual SIM support. Barnes and Noble released the Nook HD and Nook HD+ tablets back in September last year starting at $199 and $269, respectively. The company has announced that these tablets would get Google Play Store app that would let users enjoy over 700,000 Android apps and games, millions of songs and more. If the Nokia Lumia 920 and the HTC One are anything to go by then optical image stabilization are all set to become standard features in smartphones over the next year or two. The deterrent so far has been the size of the MEMS gyroscopes which don’t allow ultra slim phones. InvenSense intends to change by introducing the world’s smallest dual axis gyroscope for optical image stabilization in smartphones

We’d previously reported on Nokia having tried to get a ban on HTC One sales in the Netherlands due to the use of their proprietary HAAC microphone technology. The high amplitude microphone allows the user to get a clear recording without any clipping in case of extremely loud audio.The blame has been placed on ST Microelectronics who did not have the permission to license out the microphones till February of 2014. HTC has however removed the dual membrane microphone from its spec sheets and is working on their own technology to integrate it into the One.
The company maintains that all current devices are equipped with the mic and this will not affect sales. In addition, HTC will continue to integrate STM microphones in the One until it exhausts the supplies in its warehouse. If you follow the tech scene closely , you must have heard about these slightly expensive cameras sold in the name of Lytro. The main highlight of Lytro cameras is the ability to focus objects in the picture after you have clicked the picture. One company Pelican Imaging based in Mountain View, California ( yes the same town as Google) is working on array camera technology for mobile devices.And we might see one of the first devices with such technology debut in 2014 which is not that far away.
