Lava Iris 504Q Plus

Lava has launched the Iris 504Q+, the successor of last year’s Iris 504Q. It has a similar 5-inch HD display based on OGS technology and runs on Android 4.2, but this is powered by a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor and has a 10-megapixel rear camera with Sony Exmor RS sensor and LED flash. It also has a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. It has gesture motion and voice controls to capture images using the voice command and the gesture feature lets users change tracks, switch between homescreens, tune FM channels and browse gallery.

Apple, Google, Microsoft, Samsung and others commit to Anti-theft smartphone measures

Smartphone makers Apple, Google, HTC America, Huawei, Motorola Mobility, Microsoft, Nokia and Samsung and the U.S. telecom operators AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular and Verizon Wireless have signed a new Anti-Theft Voluntary Commitment to agree that new smartphones manufactured after July 2015 and sold in the United States would have a anti-theft tool pre-loaded or available for download to remote wipe the smartphone data remotely and also kill the smartphone when required. Google Play Store clocks the most downloads but still lags behind App Store in revenue

According to new statistics released by App Annie Index, Google’s Play Store exceeded the iOS app store by 45% in total downloads but still lagged behind when it comes to actual revenues. Worldwide, it is clear that Android is dominating the market, with over 80% marketshare, which has led to a surge in downloads from emerging markets like Russia and Brazil, but the downside is that a large number of apps on Android are free or based on the freemium model, which drastically lowers the barrier of entry, keeping the target markets in mind, whereas Apple’s iOS enjoys higher marketshare and install base in developed countries. Airtel launches Night Store for unlimited on-net local calling and internet all night

Airtel has launched Night Store, new night packs that would let pre-paid users enjoy unlimited on-net (Airtel to Airtel) voice calls and 2G data. It also offers limited 3G data with select packs in 3G circles and free Facebook access. These packs are applicable between 12AM to 6AM and is valid for one night. These packs are not applicable for customer who already has an active Unlimited 2G or 3G pack. Google Project Ara modular smartphone coming in January 2015

Google announced the Project Ara developers conference for April 15th and 16th that began yesterday. Google would release the Project Ara gray phone in January 2015, according to CNET. The Project Ara team from Advanced Technology and Projects (ATAP) division at Google is working hard to bring the modular smartphone that would let users to swap the components easily to upgrade the phone. LG India promotes Knock Code feature with new contest

LG introduced the dual SIM variants of the L90 and L70 smartphones in India recently. This has Knock Code feature that was first introduced on the G Pro 2. All the latest F Series, L Series III smartphone and the LG G2 mini has the Kock Code feature and LG has also promised to bring the feature to LG G2 and G Flex users through a software update. Samsung ChatON messenger now lets you translate between Hindi and English

Samsung updated their ChatON messenger app to version 3.5 for Android earlier this month that brought new features. At an event Samsung India has revealed that the ChatON 3.5 would also offer instant message translation between English and Hindi. It also supports 14 Indian languages and has Indianized Anicons or animated icons. It also detailed more feature aimed at Indian users. Oppo R1S with 5-inch HD display, Snapdragon processor gets certified in China

Oppo R1 that was unveiled back in December last year had a quad-core MediaTek processor, Oppo R1S codenamed R8007 has been certified on TENNA in China. This is expected to come with a 1.6 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 (MSM8928) processor and would come with the same 5-inch HD display. Samsung Gear wearable devices compatible with 20 Galaxy devices

The company has announced that all these devices would support 20 Galaxy devices including 12 smartphones and 8 Galaxy tablets. Gmail gets option to attach images backed up using Google+

Google has added a new feature for Gmail that lets you attach any image that has been automatically backup to Google+ from your mobile devices. This option would be enabled using a new Insert Photo button in Gmail that lets you access all your images. Gmail already has an option to attach images from your Google Drive. LG L24 isai for KDDI with ultra narrow bezel leaks, could be unveiled on May 1st

LGL22 Isai that was unveiled as a part of KDDI’s Winter 2013 lineup few months back would get a successor soon. @evleaks has posted a press render of the upcoming LGL24 isai smartphone headed to Japan’s KDDI network. The smartphone has a narrow bezel, similar to Sharp’s Aquos phone and is expected to come with a display size of 5.5-inch or more.
