Quanta to begin manufacturing Apple iWatch with 2.5″ screen, Pulse Sensor in July

It is an open secret that Apple is working on a wearable device. The iWatch as it has been termed by industry pundits is expected to tie in heavily with Cupertino’s Healthkit push. Now, via a report published by Reuters, we have access to a few more details about the upcoming smartwatch.

The report suggests that Apple has adopted a seemingly large 2.5 inch screen with a ‘slightly rectangular face‘. What that means remains open for interpretation but we suspect that it refers to rounded corners. Owing to the size of the display, the fascia is expected to protrude from the band instead of sitting flush with it. Android, Windows Phone to get “kill switch” option

Google is planning to add a kill switch option to the next version of Android according to reports. The feature lets users safeguard their smartphones owing to thefts.  It enables users with stolen devices to report their device as missing and disable it from being used without specific credentials in an incident of theft. Microsoft is also joining Google to add the kill switch option to Windows Phone. Both the companies have signed an agreement with the New York Attorney General for the same.

Oppo launched the Oppo R1 (R829), successor of last year’s Oppo R819 in India April in India priced at Rs. 26990. We brought you the unboxing of the device recently, here we have the benchmarks of the smartphone. It is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6582 processor and Mali 400 GPU. It packs 1GB RAM, runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) based Color OS and has a 5-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) HD IPS display. It has premium build quality, but Oppo could have gone with a faster Snapdragon SoC to justify the high price tag. Check out the synthetic benchmark scores below. Idea Cellular has launched !d 4000, the company’s latest budget smartphone with 3G connectivity. It has a 3.5-inch HVGA display, powered by a 1 GHz dual-core processor and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). It has a 3.2-megapixel rear camera without flash. It has dual SIM support with dual standby, similar to other Idea phones and also comes with 3G connectivity. The looks like a minor upgrade compared to the Idea !d 1000 that was launched earlier this March, since only the camera and the battery have seen a change. LinkedIn India has 26 million users, 43% of traffic comes from mobile

With 26 million users, India has the second largest user base of LinkedIn behind the US. The largest professional social network said that India accounts for 8.6% of the global user base. In February, LinkedIn announced that it had 24 million users in India, which means the social network garnered about 2 million users in four months. The company also stated that more and more users are accessing the social network on their mobile.

Sharp’s new Free-Form display could enable new device formfactors

Aside from a few niche devices, hardware especially smartphone design has been dictated by the most crucial aspect ie the display so far. If Sharp’s new display technology manages to reach mass production at a reasonable price point, it has the potential to revolutionize hardware design across technology verticals.

LCDs have traditionally been rectangular in design because of the need to place the drive circuit called the gate driver along the bezel. With their new Free Form display technology, the company can successfully place these gate drivers within the screen itself. Another benefit is that the bezel can be further slimmed down.

Adobe released Lightroom mobile, a companion app to the Lightroom desktop software for iPad back in April, now the company has released the app for iPhone users. In addition it also released three new apps – Sketch, Line and Photoshop Mix for the iPad. The company also began shipping new creative hardware called Adobe Ink, a new digital pen, and Adobe Slide, a new digital ruler that are sold together priced at US$199.99.

Google Drive for Android updated with redesigned UI

Google released its stock email app on Play Store earlier today and now it has added some tweaks to the Drive app on Android. The cloud storage app from Google gets fresh look with a new animation which was earlier light blue. A new document creation shortcut has been added  in the floating bar at the bottom of the screen.

BlackBerry to shut down music and video stores on July 21st

Yesterday BlackBerry tied up with Amazon to bring the Amazon app store to BlackBerry OS BlackBerry 10 soon. The company also announced that it would shut down its BlackBerry Music and video stores on July 21st. Both these sections were launched along with the BlackBerry 10 last year.
