Acer enters mobile arena with 4 new handsets

Acer, the third largest vendor in the PC market around the world, announced the launch of four Pocket PCs, falling into three groups, fulfilling consumer’s needs and views over the mobile market.

Acer targeted its new devices at various mobile Internet usage preferences and consumer attitudes, after surveying over 30,000 consumers. The new devices include M900, F900, X960 and DX900.

The new handsets the company announced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona are not the only ones that will come from Acer in 2009; more are expected to be unveiled later this year.

Two new economy LG Radio handsets GB106 GB110

Well, considering the rising popularity of the radio, it is only but expected that radio enabled handsets are gaining popularity in the country.

Keeping the target audience of students and the youth in mind, LG recently launched two new handsets GB106 and GB110 with Radio capability and a new feature: The “Intenna” FM radio do away with the need to attach a headset to turn on the music. New Mobile game from BMW for iPhone users

Its raining games at the iPhone Application Store.

BMW Mini’s financial arm has launched “Mini Liquid Assets,” a mobile game available for download at no charge from the iTunes App store.

“Mini Liquid Assets” is an interactive game modelled after the traditional encased water jet games, infused with the Mini brand and intuitive controls that take advantage of the iPhone and iPod touch user interface. BMW’s Mini hopes to increase brand awareness among Apple’s coveted demographic using the application.

Beware of hoax SMS says Airtel

Bharti Airtel posted an advisory on their website, advising subscribers to beware of certain ‘Unsolicited fraudulent SMS’s’ circulating on the network. According to the Airtel disclaimer, the recent chain of messages informs recipients that they have ‘won a prize and need to call to collect their prize’. On calling the number in the text message, subscribers are billed a high amount (up to Rs. 500/min). Airtel said they noticed these SMSs in one of their circles and are advising subscribers to ignore them. Airtel also warned that replying to such SMSs could result in viruses being downloaded on the subscriber’s phone.

After spam and phishing mails, spam SMSs are making their presence felt. Such SMS hoaxes are not a new phenomenon in India and cash in on the recipient’s incredulity by making use of ‘get rich quick’ themes and ‘free gifts’ to allure mobile phone users. Nike launches new iPhone application A must for soccer fans !

Nike has launched a mobile application called Nike Goal.  The application targets Italians who love soccer as well as Nike as a brand.

The iPhone application is an extension of the company’s Nikefootball.com site.

“The purpose of the application is to provide a free service to Italian football [soccer] fans who want to stay connected to the game and the teams and players they support,” said Martina Zavagno, digital marketing and ecommerce manager at Nike Italy. “For us at Nike, connecting with our consumers by providing them great, innovative products and services is a must,” Ms. Zavagno said. “Nike Goal has been launched with this in mind. Nike’s consumers expect us always to be ahead of the game,” she said. “Nike Goal is our kickoff of the game on the iPhone platform. The application right now provides just basic services, but we see it as a starting point. We have a lot of ideas in mind, but we want to grow gradually, adding features and services our consumers want to see on the application.”

Available in Italian and English, the application will soon cover the European Football Championships in the early part of this year.

LG Watch Phone GD910

The LG Watch Phone – GD910 was glimpsed at the recently concluded CES 2009 event and is only a glimpse of what LG is working on for the next iteration of mobile phones.

Nicole Lee from CNet was lucky enough to gather info about the LG Watch Phone and was surprised at how easy it seemed to dial numbers on the tiny dial pad, even though the screen only measures 1.43 inches diagonally.

According to LG, texting will be done in a similar manner with a virtual T9 keypad.

The glass screen on top works as a capacitive touch screen, while on the right side of the watch are three buttons: the Talk, Clear, and End buttons, respectively. The Watch Phone’s speakers were surprisingly loud even at the event.

Is Apple iPhone Nano coming soon

Rumours are rife about the launch of a smaller version of the iPhone called the Nano in the near future…some speculate as early as Q4 of 2008 (which ends in March 2009).

It is also predicted by these analysts that the Nano will be cheaper than the iPhone.

According to Kevin Chang, a JP Morgan analyst based in Taiwan, Apple is actually looking to “launch a cheaper version of the iPhone in the fourth quarter that could be based on its iPod Nano music player.”

Virgin Mobile recently announced a partnership with ‘My Space’ to bolster its youth-centric services portfolio in India.

The iFood Assistant, an iPhone and iPod touch application was launched by Kraft Foods, the world’s No. 2 food company recently. It offers consumers access to food and meal-planning ideas. The application targets consumers on the go looking for recipes.

The application can be downloaded from the Apple App Store for installation on any iPhone or iPod touch.

“Our goal is to help make consumers’ lives easier by helping them find the perfect food idea for any occasion, create quick shopping lists and find the nearest grocery store – all just a finger-tap away,” said Ed Kaczmarek, director of innovation for new services at Kraft.
