India on the map again: 1 in 6 BOLT users is INDIAN!

That India is a humungous cell phone market is sort of old news now.

Touted to be one of the fastest growing mobile markets of the world (a DoT study shows we should be about a billion mobile users by 2014), it will come as no surprise that Indians have arrived on the mobility telcom map. Also consider the fact that several mobile companies have been launching their handsets in India along with their global launches and in some cases even before the global launch. Recall Sony Xperia!

Mumbai can cheer. MTNL 3G service to launch today

After much wait and several delays (From December 2008 end launch to February to April end and now finally mid May), MTNL will finally launch its 3G service ‘Jadoo’ in Mumbai today.

MTNL’s Chairman and Managing Director R.S.P Sinha will launch the 3G service at south Mumbai’s five star Hotel Taj President. To launch the 3G service in Mumbai, MTNL has already set up 720 base transceiver stations in the Mumbai Circle.

This comes as good news for MTNL mobile users who did not succumb to switching over to a private operator. While MTNL has not revealed the pricing of the service yet, it is certain that services such as Video calling, Video conferencing, and Rich Multimedia experience, Video on demand, Mobile Internet speeds up to 7 mbps and Mobile TV will now be accessible to users. Powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 OS, this handset has a 5 megapixel camera and boasts of a WVGA resolution for its 3.5 inch touchscreen.

The WVGA resolution offers five times the number of pixels of most phones and delivers the best document, photo, movie and website viewing experience possible.  The handset also comes loaded with an improved version of the ASUS proprietary glide user interface.
