USB4 Specification confirmed — Based on Thunderbolt, offers 40 Gbps speed

USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) has published USB4 specification, a major update to USB 3.2, after it was announced. The USB4 architecture is based on the Thunderbolt protocol specification recently contributed by Intel Corporation to the USB Promoter Group. The group also has Apple Inc., Hewlett-Packard Inc., Microsoft Corporation, Renesas Corporation, STMicroelectronics, and Texas Instruments, in addition to Intel. USB4 doubles the maximum aggregate bandwidth of USB and enables multiple simultaneous data and display protocols.

MediaTek 5G 7nm SoC with built-in Helio M70 5G multi-mode modem announced

MediaTek at the Computex 2019 in Taiwan today announced the company’s first 5G SoC built using 7nm FinFET process technology and MediaTek Helio M70 5G modem built in. It uses the latest Cortex-A77 CPU, Mali-G77 GPU and MediaTek’s most advanced AI processing unit (APU).  The multi-mode 5G chipset is for 5G stand alone and non-stand alone (SA/NSA) sub-6GHz networks. It supports connectivity from 2G to 4G to bridge existing network access while 5G networks roll out globally.

Lenovo Project Limitless world’s first 5G PC powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx 5G compute platform announced

Lenovo at the Computex 2019 in Taipei announced Project Limitless, which calls as the world’s first 5G  always-on, always-connected PC, powered by new Snapdragon 8cx 5G compute platform with the Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 5G modem. Lenovo did not share any specification of the device yet, but the prototype shows a convertible design, large screen and a fingerprint sensor.

EE to launch 5G services in six cities in UK on May 30

EE; UK’s mobile network that is part of BT Group today announced that it will launch 5G in Uk starting in six cities: London, Birmingham, Cardiff, Manchester, Edinburgh and Belfast from May 30th. It will also introduce new 5G plans, a range of six new 5G smartphones and devices. OnePlus 7 Pro 5G announced, coming to EE in the UK and Elisa in Finland

Along with the OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 7 Pro, OnePlus also introduced the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G at its event, after the company showcased  a 5G prototype smartphone at the MWC in February. As the company had already announced last year, it will be available exclusively with EE in the UK and Elisa in Finland. The company has not announced any other partnerships and did not reveal the price or the availability of the phone in these markets.
