Samsung just launched the Galaxy Note Edge smartphone in India, after reports of it launching in the country next month. The Note Edge was announced at the IFA 2014 in September along with the Note 4 and packs a 5.6-inch (1440 x 2560 pixels) Quad HD+ Super AMOLED display that bends on the right side that utilizing 160 pixels so that you can acess frequently used apps, alerts and device functionality. Earlier: Samsung plans to launch the Galaxy Note Edge smartphone in India in January 2015 at a price tag of Rs. 68,500, according to a report from ET. The report says that it would retail for Rs. 64,900. Samsung launched the Galaxy Note 4 smartphone in India for Rs. 58300 back in October, which now retails for Rs. 57,000 on the official Samsung eStore. Xiaomi Redmi Note went on sale in India earlier this month for Rs. 8,999. Xiaomi has announced that Redmi Note 4G will go on sale on Flipkart on December 30th, as it promised at the launch. The Redmi Note 4G has support for TD-LTE 2300MHz (Band 40) and FDD-LTE 1800MHz (Band 3) for India and is powered by a 1.6GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 SoC, instead of Octa-Core MediaTek chip in the 3G variant. Swipe Technologies has launched Swipe Marathon, the company’s first smartphone with a Marathon 4000mAh battery that promises up to 60 days standby. It has a 4.5-inch FWVGA screen, powered by a 1 GHz dual-core processor and runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat). Samsung Galaxy Core Prime (SM-G360H/DS) went on sale through retail stores in India for Rs. 9,599 earlier this month, now the smartphone is available from the official Samsung India eStore. It has a 4.5-inch WVGA display, powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor and runs on Android 4.4 (Kitkat). It has a 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. Philips S388 was listed on official India website back in August for Rs. 13694 (MRP) and later went on sale for Rs. 7,795 online. Now the Philips S398 smartphone has been listed on the official website in India. It has a 5-inch HD display, is powered by a 1.3 GHz quad-core MediaTek processor, runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat), has a 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. Gionee launched the Elife S5.1, the company’s thinnest smartphone in India last month for Rs. 18,999. We brought you the unboxing and the benchmarks of the smartphone recently, here we have the battery test results. The Elife S5.1 has a 2100mAh built-in battery. Samsung is all set to launch the Samsung Z1, the company’s budget Tizen OS smartphone in India on January 18th 2015, according to a report from Korea Economic Daily. Earlier reports in September and November said that the Tizen powered smartphone will hit Indian markets by November or December. Looks like the launch will finally happen in January. Samsung has also started their partners meet for the Samsung Z1 in India. Since January 18th lies on Sunday, the date might be wrong. Motorola has launched the Motorola Moto X (2nd Gen) 32GB variant in India, as it promised. The 16GB variant that was launched back in September for Rs. 31,999 has received a price cut and is available for Rs. 29,999. The wood and leather back variants are now available for Rs. 31,999. The Moto X (2nd Gen) has a 5.2-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, powered by a 2.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor with Adreno 330 GPU and runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat). Spice and Google launched the Spice Dream UNO H (Mi-498H) earlier this week for Rs. 6,499. The Spice Dream UNO H has complete Hindi keyboard, voice input and Hindi versions of popular Google products such as Chrome, Search, YouTube and Google Maps. It also comes pre-loaded with exclusive Hindi applications such as Aajtak, Sony live and Hungama.
Vodafone has announced that it has started offering free Wi-Fi connectivity in Delhi’s Khan Market area for both Vodafone and Non-Vodafone subscribers. This covers most frequented hotspots like ROUTE 04, SOY, Choko La, Big Chill, Pure Punjab, Chonas, Town Hall and Khan Chacha. Last year Airtel partnered with Google to launch Free Zone to access some Google Apps for free. I experienced a similar free WiFi service at Hyderabad Airport powered by Tata Docomo.
