Vodafone launches 4G services in Pune

Vodafone has launched its 4G services in Pune. Vodafone 4G is now available across 107 cities and towns in Maharashtra & Goa including Nagpur, Nashik, Vasai, Akola, Chandrapur, Amravati, Latur, Dhule, Malegaon, Goa, Ahmednagar, Nanded, Sangli, Miraj, Kolhapur, Jalgaon etc. and will soon be rolled out across all major towns and cities of Maharashtra by March 2017. Samsung, Reliance Jio to expand LTE services in India covering over 90% population

Samsung at its joint event with Jio at the MWC 2017 in Barcelona today announced I&G (Infill & Growth) Project for Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd in India. This is aimed at upgrading current LTE mobile communication services across India by expanding both the current network capacity as well as network coverage.

Airtel won’t charge for incoming calls when roaming nationally starting April

Airtel today announced that it will offer free incoming calls while roaming nationally for all its customers. Starting this April 1st, all Airtel customers, travelling anywhere in the country, can take incoming calls for free without opting for any special packs. T-Mobile starts deploying LTE-U technology in its LTE network, will launch in Spring 2017

T-Mobile today announced that it has started deploying LTE-U technology in its LTE network and will launch in Spring 2017, following today’s FCC certification of equipment from strategic partners Ericsson and Nokia. This comes after more than three years of extensive research, development and testing to ensure LTE-U works well alongside Wi-Fi technologies. Airtel to acquire Telenor India

Airtel today announced that it has agreed to acquire Telenor India. As part of the agreement, Airtel will acquire Telenor India’s running operations in seven circles – Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Gujarat, UP (East), UP (West) and Assam, and transfer of all of Telenor India’s assets including spectrum, licenses and operations, including its employees and customer base of 44 million as well as outstanding spectrum payments and other operational contracts, including tower lease. Verizon Communications and Yahoo back in July last announced they have entered into a definitive agreement under which Verizon will acquire Yahoo’s operating business for approximately $4.83 billion in cash. Today both the companies have announced that they have agreed to reduce the price Verizon will pay to acquire Yahoo’s operating business by $350 million. Verizon’s acquisition of Yahoo is now valued at approximately $4.48 billion in cash. Reliance Jio beat its own customer base target: Mukesh Ambani

Reliance Jio Infocomm, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) officially launched for all on September 5th, 2016. In October the company announced that it signed record 16 million new subscribers in 26 days of its commercial operations, later in November the company said that it has added 50 million subscribers in 83 days. It clocked 72.4 million subscribers as of December 31, 2016.
