Airtel 4G now available in 61 towns across Jammu & Kashmir

Airtel launched 4G LTE services in Jammu & Kashmir across 25 towns/locations across the Jammu region earlier this month. Today it has announced that Airtel 4G is now available in 61 towns across Jammu & Kashmir (22 towns in Kashmir and 39 towns in Jammu). Airtel 4G has been rolled out in Jammu & Kashmir using FD LTE technology in the 1800 MHz band. It already said that it plans to expand its 4G footprint to over 100 towns across the state. Reliance Jio clocks over 72 million Prime members, deadline extended till Apr 15, Rs. 303 recharge offers free services till June

Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries today announced that Reliance Jio now has over 72 million, and still counting in a month of starting Prime enrollment. He said that this is the largest migration from free to paid services in history in such a short period of time. Idea offers 1GB 4G data per day for post-paid customers with new pack

Idea Cellular today announced that it will offer postpaid customers 1GB data per day, for a month, on 4G Handsets. This is available for all postpaid customers on Limited rental plans of Rs. 199 and above. The data benefit of 1GB / day is available on 4G handset only and 3GB/month for Non 4G Handset users.

Update: Ookla in an official statement said that it fully stands behind Airtel being named “India’s Fastest Mobile Network”

Airtel was declared as India’s fastest mobile network by Ookla last month. Now Reliance Jio has approached Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) against Airtel saying that the claim of Airtel as India’s fastest network is false, misleading and incorrect. Vodafone, Idea announce merger to become India’s biggest telecom operator

[Update] – Kumar Mangalam Birla will be chairman of the merged company, and Vodafone will appoint a CFO.

Couple of months after Vodafone confirming merger talks with Aditya Birla Group’s telecom arm Idea Cellular, Board of Directors of Idea Cellular at its meeting held today, 20th March have approved amalgamation of Vodafone India Limited (VIL) and its wholly owned subsidiary Vodafone Mobile Services Limited (VMSL) with Idea. The combined market share of both the telecom operators add up to 43%, making it the largest telecom firm, surpassing Airtel.

TDSAT asks TRAI to re-examine Reliance Jio’s free offers

The Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) in an order today has asked the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to re-examine issues relating to the approval granted to the operator to continue with the freebies and apprise it of the “outcome and findings of the examination” within two weeks.

RCom-Aircel merger gets Stock Exchange and SEBI approvals

Update March 20: Reliance Communications (RCOM) today announced that it has received an approval of the Competition Commission of India (CCI) for the proposed merger with Aircel.

Earlier: Back in September last year Reliance Communications (RCOM) and Maxis Communications Berhad (MCB), promoters of Aircel announced that they have signing an agreement for the merger of their Indian wireless businesses. Airtel has launched 4G LTE services in Jammu & Kashmir, which is available across 25 towns/locations across the Jammu region. It plans to expand its 4G footprint to over 100 towns across Jammu & Kashmir. With this, Airtel 4G services are now available in all 22 telecom circles of the country. Airtel 4G will be offered using 1800 MHz band and is available through mobile phones, 4G hotspots and dongles in these towns.
