Sony Mobile sales up 28.7% YoY in Q3 FY14, 11.9 million smartphones shipped

Sony Corporation has reported its revenues for third quarter of the financial year 2014 that ended December 31st. Sales increased to 2,557.8 billion yen ( US$ 21,139 million), an increase of 6.1%. It shipped 11.9 million smartphone in the quarter, compared to 9.9 million the previous quarter and 10.7 the same quarter the previous year, which is a 11% increase. The mobile communications division has reported sales of 429 billion yen (US$ 3,545 million) for the quarter, a 28.7% increase year-on-year and income of 9.3 billion yen ( US$76 million U.S. dollars).

Sony to reportedly slash 1000 jobs in smartphone division

Sony Corp is said to be planning to cut  1000 jobs in its struggling smartphone division, according to a latest report from Reuters. The move comes from the company as it is tries to garner profits.

Sony SmartWatch 3 and SmartBand Talk officially launched in India at Rs. 19990 and Rs. 12990

Sony has officially launched the SmartWatch 3 and SmartBand Talk in India. These were announced at IFA 2014 back in September and got listed on the official website last week along with the price tag. The Sony SmartWatch 3 SWR50 powered by Android Wear has a 1.6-inch (320 x 320 pixels) TFT LCD capacitive touch screen display, powered by a 1.2 GHz processor and offers notification for messages, calls and more when connected to the smartphone over Bluetooth. The Sony SmartBand Talk SWR30 wearable has a 1.4-inch e-paper display to view notifications from your smartphone, get time and monitor Lifelog activities. It also has built-in microphone and speaker so that you can talk into it and hear your caller when connected to a smartphone.  Both these are waterproof with IP68 ratings. Sony Xperia Z series Android 5.0 Lollipop roll out starting globally from Feb 2015

Soon after the Android 5.0 (Lollipop) announcement from Google, Sony Mobile confirmed that it will update the entire Xperia Z series of smartphones and tablets to Android Lollipop.
