Google Project Zero reveals “high severity” flaw in the macOS kernel which grants access to attackers

Google’s Project Zero has reported and publicly disclosed a “high severity” flaw in the macOS kernel which can grant an attacker access to a users computer without their knowledge. Security researchers discovered that if a modification is made to a user-owned mounted filesystem image, the virtual management system isn’t notified of those changes. This lets attacker access to perform malicious actions on that mounted filesystem without the end user ever knowing about it. Google rolls out March 2019 Android security update, Improves camera, storage performance and more for Pixel 3 series

Google has started rolling out new over-the-air (OTA) update for Pixel devices and also posted factory images as part of monthly Android Security release. The update for this month also includes several functional improvements for Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL that includes faster camera startup and responsiveness, storage performance improvements, Bluetooth reliability, playback improvements for encrypted media on some apps.

Google begins rolling out Android Slices for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and other settings

Google back in 2018 had announced the Android Slices at I/O 2018 event and began testing the new UI in the later part of 2018 with third-party apps. Slices are designed to surface the key features of applications in natural places, like Google Search. Google begins replacing ‘Voice Match’ function with Assistant-only lock screen access

Google is removing the ability to fully unlock the phone using Voice Match on Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. At CES 2019, the company said that this feature would be coming to all Android devices. Replacing the full device unlock is the Voice Match recognition on phones and tablets can now only provide Assistant “personal results,” like email and calendar entries. Google Chrome Dark Mode for Android and Web said to darken web pages [Update: Live in Canary]

Update – February 27, 2019: Now you can enable this feature in Chome Canary from chrome://flags and enabling #enable-android-web-contents-dark-mode. The dark mode looks a bit weird in some web pages since it inverts images colors looking more like high contrast mode than dark mode. This is also available for the web.

Google introduced spell check in Google Docs seven years ago, and now it has announced that it will be using machine translation techniques for grammatical errors, with grammar suggestions in Docs. FIDO2 certification for Android to make passwords obsolete

FIDO Alliance has announced that Android is now FIDO2 Certified, meaning, any compatible device running Android 7.0+ is now FIDO2 Certified out of the box or after an automated Google Play Services update. This gives users the ability to leverage their device’s built-in fingerprint sensor and/or FIDO security keys for secure passwordless access to websites and native applications that support the FIDO2 protocols.
