Google introduces cloud-based ‘Chrome OS Flex’ for PCs & Macs


Google has announced a new version of Chrome OS that is designed to work via the cloud, called Chrome OS Flex. This free-to-download, cloud-based operating system is built for businesses and schools and will work on any PC and Mac device.

Chrome OS Flex uses the same code base as regular Chrome OS, so it will provide the same end-user and IT experience, which includes the Chrome Browser, Google Assistant, and other  cross-device features. IT personal can even manage Chrome OS Flex devices and Chrome OS devices like Chromebooks side by side in the Google Admin console.

Powered by Google’s cloud computing technology, Chrome OS Flex will offer many features such as:

  • Fast access to web apps and virtualization, with background updates that result in lower downtime.
  • Always up-to-date protection against viruses, ransomware, and phishing. Chrome OS Flex supports sandboxing technology, Google Safe Browsing and also remote wipe to prevent data loss.
  • Easy deployment through USB or network deployment.
  • Powerful management capabilities through the the cloud-based Google Admin console.
