Nvidia announces GPU licensing starting with Kepler, to compete with PowerVR

Nvidia, one of the world’s leading graphics providers, has announced that it will start licensing its GPU technology for other SoC manufacturers, starting with the Kepler series of GPUs. This move comes at a time when most smartphone manufacturers have moved away from Nvidia’s Tegra SoC, which was supposed to provide the much needed boost to the company’s flailing mobile portfolio. Nvidia Tegra, while good at games, lacked in raw performance and most importantly, battery life. Tegra chips were Nvidia’s SoC play at the mobile market, and now, like their core PC business, the Kepler based GPUs will be licensed to willing manufacturers.

NVIDIA has announced 5 new games optimized for next-gen Tegra 3 4-PLUS-1 quad-core Android devices at E3 2012. These games include, Dead Trigger, Puddle THD, Demons’ Score THD, Bounty Arms and Heroes Call. These games on Tegra 3, with four performance processing cores, in addition to its fifth battery saver core, and a 12-core GeForce GPU would offer perfect gaming experience. NVIDIA has unveiled the world’s first Quad-Core Tegra 3 processor for tablets and mobile phones. This is said to offer PC-class performance levels, better battery life and better mobile experiences (Better web experience, faster applications and multitasking) in tablets and mobile phones.This was previously named, Project Kal-El that was confirmed by the Nvidia CEO in AsiaD last month. Samsung to Release NVIDIA Tegra Phone

A Samsung representative confirmed that Samsung is working on a phone equipped with NVIDIA’s Tegra Processor. Last month, NVIDIA said that a phone equipped with the Tegra processor would be released on AT&T ir T-Mobile costing around 199$. So now it’s almost sure that the phone will be a Samsung.
