Update – February 27, 2019: Now you can enable this feature in Chome Canary from chrome://flags and enabling #enable-android-web-contents-dark-mode. The dark mode looks a bit weird in some web pages since it inverts images colors looking more like high contrast mode than dark mode. This is also available for the web.
Google has finally launched Duo video calling on the web with supported browsers include Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. The interface is fairly simple; it shows recent contacts listed at the top, full list of all contacts placed below. Google Duo on the web supports browser notifications for incoming calls. Google introduced spell check in Google Docs seven years ago, and now it has announced that it will be using machine translation techniques for grammatical errors, with grammar suggestions in Docs. G Suite Basic, Business and Enterprise customers will start to see inline, contextual grammar suggestions in their documents as they type, just like spellcheck. FIDO Alliance has announced that Android is now FIDO2 Certified, meaning, any compatible device running Android 7.0+ is now FIDO2 Certified out of the box or after an automated Google Play Services update. This gives users the ability to leverage their device’s built-in fingerprint sensor and/or FIDO security keys for secure passwordless access to websites and native applications that support the FIDO2 protocols. With this deal, KaiOS will get deeper integration of Google’s services like the Google Assistant and Google Maps, and can now access YouTube for the first time on their smart feature phones. Google has announced that it is rolling out Smart Reply for Messages app in Spanish and is also sharing new features coming to the app. In the coming months, Google will bring Assistant integration within Messages for English across the globe. The app uses on-device AI to offer suggestion chips relevant to your conversation.

Google’s ARCore is getting a new update bringing the version number to V1.7. This update brings new Augmented Faces API for the front camera and other improvements. It creates a “high quality, 468-point 3D mesh” of a user’s face, which can be used to create effects. Google has announced that it will be investing over $13 billion throughout 2019 in data centers and offices across the U.S., with major expansions in 14 states. The company, with the investments, is aiming to hire tens of thousands of employees, and enable the creation of more than 10,000 new construction jobs in Nebraska, Nevada, Ohio, Texas, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Virginia.
