Foxconn is eyeing to open its first Apple iPhone plant in India, as per a latest report from Reuters. The Apple manufacturing partner Foxconn is reportedly in talks with the Indian government officials for the same.

Foxconn would be manufacturing BlackBerry OS 10.2 smartphones and the company’s chairman Terry Gou announced that these smartphones will be showcased at the MWC 2014 which is three weeks away from now. Among the phones that could be showcased there, a phone by the model number STJ100-1 passed Bluetooth SIG certification yesterday.

As sales plunge, BlackBerry has announced a new partnership with Foxconn to produce BlackBerry 10 devices. The five year partnership aims to launch the first device by March or April. The BlackBerry 10 based device will be introduced first in Indonesia. The company has also earmarked six or seven additional markets for the device.

As we had reported previously, The Foxconn Technology Group today announced a partnership with Mozilla to collaborate and create devices based on the Firefox OS. Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. as it is officially known has announced that is working on more than five devices ranging from smartphones to televisions based on the Firefox OS.
The alliance with Mozilla comes at a time when the company is trying to grow beyond its original design manufacturing roots to a combination of software and hardware offerings. In a move aimed at giving Apple greater supply chain balance, the company is expected to shift over a greater percentage of manufacturing to Pegatron. Historially, Foxconn has been responsible for the production of all iPhones and iPads. However starting 2011, Pegatron has been responsible for making a small segment of iPhones and has since graduated on to production of the iPad Mini.

Foxconn’s Chengdu plant was recently in the news because of an explosion resulting from combustible aluminum dust stuck in the ducts in the polishing section of the plant. Two workers were immediately reported dead with as many as 16 others critically injured. Today another worker succumbed at a local hospital due to injuries from the explosion. Hon Hai Chairman Terry Gou meanwhile issued a statement that the explosion would in no way affect production of the iPad 2 while adding that products scheduled for Quarter 3 production would also be on track.

Mobile Phones are some of the consumer products with the greatest hype and thus most consumers love news, photos or any information regarding future phones and products. Many models of handsets are leaked to the public while some are kept secret till the moment of announcement.
One such example was the 1st Generation iPhone which was kept a secret till the last moment. Rumours were doing the rounds about the phone but nothing about the features or any photo leaked. Then when people began to write off the rumours, Apple made the announcement with a bang creating tremendous hype.
But today we hear the sad news and wonder whether all this secrecy is worth it. According to sources, 25 year old Sun Danyong, an employee at Foxconn committed suicide. The reason for this is because he lost a 4th Generation Prototype of the Apple iPhone which was entrusted to him to be shipped to Apple.
