Apple’s latest patent filing shows Intelligent Location-Based Security

Apple has filed for patent that describes a method of adjusting security and other settings for mobile devices based on the user’s location. The latest patent application was published by the United States Patent & Trademark Office but was originally filed in December 2012 by Apple.

Apple’s iWatch to reportedly come in Sports and Designer models

Last week Reuters reported that the iWatch will boast a 2.5 inch screen. Today, another report is suggesting that the iWatch will come in two different models. Pocketnow is stating that the iWatch will come in ‘Sports’ and ‘Designer’ style with former being rectangular with a rubber strap and later being round and stainless steel.

Quanta to begin manufacturing Apple iWatch with 2.5″ screen, Pulse Sensor in July

It is an open secret that Apple is working on a wearable device. The iWatch as it has been termed by industry pundits is expected to tie in heavily with Cupertino’s Healthkit push. Now, via a report published by Reuters, we have access to a few more details about the upcoming smartwatch.

The report suggests that Apple has adopted a seemingly large 2.5 inch screen with a ‘slightly rectangular face‘. What that means remains open for interpretation but we suspect that it refers to rounded corners. Owing to the size of the display, the fascia is expected to protrude from the band instead of sitting flush with it. Apple App Store gets new ‘Browse by Category’ section for Apps

Apple has made app browsing simplified by adding ‘Browse by Category’ section to both the desktop and iOS App Store. The introduction of this section enables users to easily click on a certain category. Prior to this, users had to ad to select their chosen category from a drop-down list in the top-left of the App Store .

Apple drops the ban hammer on apps that reward IAPs for social sharing, video views

In a move that should’ve been implemented a long time back, Apple has started banning applications that reward users for incessant sharing on social channels. Applications that unlock in-game/app achievements for watching videos will also suffer the same fate. Several high profile games like Candy Crush are now in violation of Apple’s new rules and might have to undergo significant retooling. iOS 8 includes code for running split screen applications

Steve Stroughton Smith, the well known iOS developer today confirmed what was already suspected for quite some time. Apple’s beta release of iOS 8 includes code that will allow users to run applications in a split screen configuration. Apple reportedly acquires social recommendation search app SpotSetter

In a bid to boost its mapping service, Apple has scooped up social search engine app SpotSetter, according to Techcrunch. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed by the company. Founded in 2011, SpotSetter provides personalized recommendations for places to go such as restaurants, stores and entertainment venues.

Apple’s health-focused iWatch reportedly launching in October

Apple would unveil its long rumored smartwatch at an event in October, according to reports from Japanese business newspaper Nikkei and Re/code. Apple introduced its new Health app with the iOS 8 earlier this month that would collect a number of body metrics including blood pressure, heart rate, and stats on diet and exercise and consolidate at one place. Apple bolsters itself in the cloud storage race with iCloud Drive

Apple has sold 800 million iOS devices with over half a billion iPhones

Apple held its annual developer conference WWDC 2014 at San Francisco yesterday and at the event, Apple made a lot of announcements about the upcoming software features. During the keynote, Apple also mentioned that they had sold more than 800 million iOS devices and well on course for hitting a billion iOS devices.

Apple adds wake up command and Shazam integration to Siri

In a bid to enhance song recognition, Apple has added Shazam integration to Siri. Apple’s intelligent voice assistant will identify the song from Shazam’s database. If the user asks “What song is playing”, Siri will identify the song and ask the user to buy it from iTunes. This feature was previously leaked last month.

Apple opens Touch ID API for all applications

Last year, Apple introduced the iPhone 5s with its Touch ID sensor on board. This fingerprint reader built into the home button itself was intimately tied in to the operating system. It allowed for a seamless way to unlock the device, offered a few more security related functions.

With the launch of iOS 8, developers will be able to use the Touch ID API to enable authentication for users. This’ll work in two ways. Developers can either use fingerprint based authentication for applications and in case of more sensitive use cases, offer Touch ID as a secondary means of authentication. Apple asks the US Court to ban sales of Samsung devices

Apple is not letting it go. The iPhone and iPad maker is re-targeting Samsung for patent infringement. Apple has filed a motion with the US court to block the U.S. sale of some older Samsung products. The move comes from the company after a jury verdict earlier this month that Samsung violated three of its patents. Apple was granted mere $119.6 million in damages against $2 billion demanded in this latest verdict.
