Apple reports $57.6 billion revenue, sells 51 million iPhones, 26 million iPads in Q1 2014

Apple has just released its earnings report for Q1 2014 and has reported revenue worth $57.6 billion. Of this, net profit was $13.1 bilion which corresponds to a 5.7 percent growth in revenue year on year. The company has reported iPhone sales to the tune of 51 million devices sold. This mix was biased towards the iPhone 5s as was revealed in the earnings call. The underlying intent was clear that the iPhone 5c wasn’t as big a success as Apple might have wished for. Microsoft’s SkyDrive will be called OneDrive

After a trademark infringement lawsuit, won by the Sky broadcasting corporation in the UK, Microsoft was tasked with changing its consumer facing cloud service “SkyDrive” to something else. Today the company has revealed that SkyDrive will be called “OneDrive”, and that it will start rolling out the changes gradually. Technically, the product remains the same but the name, which is usually a constant, receives a change. This is not the first time Microsoft has been forced to rename its products, as we had witnessed earlier how the company was forced not to use “metro” for its whole design language it developed. After announcing the PadFone mini 4.3 with a 4.3-inch qHD display last month and the PadFone mini earlier this month with a 4-inch WVGA screen at the CES,  Asus has unveiled the PadFone E with a 4.7-inch HD screen and large 10.1-inch tablet dock in Taiwan. It has a 4.7-inch HD (1280×720 pixels) IPS display, 1.4 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor with Adreno 305 GPU and runs on Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean). It has PadFone station dock with a 10.1-inch (1280 ×720 pixels) display with anti-finger print coating and Corning gorilla glass protection. Oppo to kickstart Indian operations on January 30th with the launch of N1

Oppo, the Chinese consumer electronics company, known for its popular smartphones like the Find 5 and the N1, has just sent out invites for an event where it will kickstart its Indian operations – Oppo Mobile India Private Limited, with the launch of its flagship device – the Oppo N1. While the invite doesn’t mention the launch of N1, FoneArena has confirmed that the company is indeed launching the device at the event. It is also really interesting to note that Oppo has courted Bollywood stars Hrithik Roshan and Sonam Kapoor for increasing brand awareness in the country. Almost all the mobile phone companies have courted stars from Bollywood and Cricket to promote their brands and Oppo is no exception.

GTA San Andreas makes its way onto Windows Phone with a select few supported devices

Grand Theft Auto is possibly one of the most controversial yet celebrated game franchises in the history of gamerkind. The company behind the series, Rockstar games, started releasing, or letting others port its games over to mobile platforms like iOS and Android. GTA III and Vice City released on both the platforms while availability still evaded the third ecosystem – Windows Phone. But when the company announced San Andreas for mobile, Windows Phone was surprisingly in the mix of platforms supported. Keeping up that promise, the company, through Wardrum studios which developed the iOS and Android versions, has made the game available on the Windows Phone store. However, the game is listed to support only a select few devices at the moment and costs a cool 6.99 USD. Samsung, Google sign a 10-year patent agreement

Samsung and Google has signed a 10 year global patent cross-license agreement that would cover technologies and business areas. This will strengthen their patent position against patent infringement against other, especially Apple. LG Mobile sells 13.2 million phones this quarter, posts increased revenues thanks to G2 and Nexus 5

LG, a company which was known to be struggling in the mobile industry just a few years back, has posted strong results for the fourth quarter of 2013 today. It has been a grand revival of sorts for the company which has seen great releases last year in the LG G2 and the Google Nexus 5. Incidentally, LG confirms that these exact two devices have contributed massively to the improvements in its mobile revenue over the quarter as well as over the year. The numbers for QoQ increase in revenues are 18% – 3.38 bn USD, while yoy numbers are more encouraging at 29% – 11.85 billion USD. LG has quickly become one of the more interesting Android OEMs in the recent times and the numbers clearly reflect that.

Lenovo K7T Kingdom with 2K display, 3GB RAM and Snapdragon 800 shows up in Benchmarks

Lenovo K7T (Kingdom) has surfaced in AnTuTu Benchmarks in China. After the Lenovo Vibe X and the Vibe Z smartphones with full HD display, the K7T would be the first smartphone from the company to sport a a 2K display with a resolution of 2560×1400 pixels. According to the leaked benchmark screenshot, it would come with 3GB RAM and a 2.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with Adreno 330 GPU. The company announced the Canvas Knight A350 with a 5-inch 1080p display in Russia, it would also launch the Canvas Tube A118R with a 5.5-inch display soon. It is powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor and runs on Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean). It has a 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.
