As Samsung’s March 1st Unpacked 2015 event gets closer several leaks regarding the upcoming Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge have started flowing. CNET Korea have got hold of images of both the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Edge smartphones with and without cases. We had seen several leaks of the Galaxy S6 earlier from the case markers and the design schematics that were leaked recently revealed that the Galaxy S6 would be just 6.91mm thin. Micromax has launched two new feature phones, Joy X1800 and Joy X1850. The main highlight is that these Joy series of smartphones come in pouch packaging rather than box. This is the first ever pouch packaging phones in the Indian market claims Micromax. Both these smartphone have a 1.77-inch (128 x 160 pixels) QQVGA colored screen, dual SIM support, a rear camera, Bluetooth 3.0, expandable memory up to 4GB, FM Radio, Flashlight and more. Xiaomi Redmi 2 Unboxing

Xiaomi introduced the Redmi 2 smartphone, the second generation budget smartphone in the Redmi series in China last month. The Redmi 2 packs a faster 64-bit Snapdragon processor and also comes with 4G LTE connectivity, compared to the Redmi 1S that has Snapdragon 400 SoC and 3G connectivity. Lava Iris X8, the company’s upcoming smartphone in the Iris X series has been listed on Flipkart. It has 5-inch HD screen, is powered by a 1.4 GHz Octa-Core MediaTek processor and runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat). It has a 8-megapixel rear camera with dual LED flash and a 3-megapixel front-facing camera. The front camera doesn’t have LED flash like the Iris X5 that was launched last year. It has a 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash as well. It comes with dual SIM support and 3G connectivity. ASUS has introduced ZenPower, the company’s first 9600mAh portable power bank in Taiwan. It was originally introduced at the CES last month only to selected media and competes with Xiaomi’s 10400mAh power bank. It even looks similar to the Xiaomi Mi power bank. It weighs 215 grams and is 18mm thick, slightly lighter and thinner than the Mi 10400mAh power bank that weighs 250g and is 21.6mm thick. Other dimensions are almost similar. Last year Opera introduced Sponsored Web Pass that lets operators team up with advertisers to sponsor mobile internet access for a limited time, free of cost. Few months back Opera and Idea Cellular teamed up with Quikr who sponsored for mobile data for Opera customers using Idea connection in India. Now Opera has teamed up with FreeCharge, an e-commerce player who has sponsored free data for Vodafone and Idea subscribers using Opera Mini web browser. Huawei opens new R&D center in Bangalore by investing over US$ 170 million

Huawei today announced that it has launched its new Research & Development center in Whitefield, Bangalore. The one million sq. ft. campus built on a 20 acre land will accommodate up to 5,000 engineers and includes an R&D Block, customer experience center, large cafeteria, multilevel car park and residential block for expat employees, said the company. Huawei has invested over US$ 170 million (Rs. 1051 crores approx.) in building the new campus in Bangalore. OnePlus One to get SwiftKey keyboard integration with upcoming OTA update

OnePlus has partnered with popular keyboard app creator SwiftKey to integrate SwiftKey keyboard with the upcoming CyanogenMod 11S update later this month. This enables users to switch to Swiftkey keyboard easily without the need to download. Swiftkey lets you type in up to three languages at once without switching settings and it even has new material design keyboard themes. Sony Mobile sales up 28.7% YoY in Q3 FY14, 11.9 million smartphones shipped

Sony Corporation has reported its revenues for third quarter of the financial year 2014 that ended December 31st. Sales increased to 2,557.8 billion yen ( US$ 21,139 million), an increase of 6.1%. It shipped 11.9 million smartphone in the quarter, compared to 9.9 million the previous quarter and 10.7 the same quarter the previous year, which is a 11% increase. The mobile communications division has reported sales of 429 billion yen (US$ 3,545 million) for the quarter, a 28.7% increase year-on-year and income of 9.3 billion yen ( US$76 million U.S. dollars).

Gionee to introduce new ultra-slim smartphones at MWC 2015 on March 2

Gionee has announced that it will unveil new ultra-slim smartphones at the Mobile World Congress 2015 in Barcelona next month. It unveiled the Elife S5.5 that was 5.5mm thick and introduced the Elife S5.1 that even entered into the Guinness book of world records in September since it was the slimmest smartphone at that time at just 5.1mm.
