The sheer volume of Chinese manufactures has seldom helped us in remembering them, but among them a few companies do stand out and one among them is Oppo. Having produced only a handful of smartphones so far, Oppo have “made it large” because of their hardware and design language in their phones. Oppo have just launched their Oppo N1 and today we have images of what is probably the company’s next smartphone – Oppo R829. Via their Weibo account, Oppo have posted the image of this new device and according to Oppo’s Brand Ambassador – Kedros Ng, this device is the Oppo R829. The naming convention makes us inclined to think that this is the successor of Oppo R819 which we reviewed earlier.

It started with the Oppo R819, and now a new Oppo R833T mid range smartphone has been revealed in China. It’s a 4.3″ device with modest specifications, which is similar to the ones we have here in the Indian mid range market. The device runs on a 1.3 GHz Quad Core Cortex A7 processor and has 1 GB of RAM, with 4 GB of internal storage augmented with a micro SD expansion slot if needed. There is also a 5 MP camera on the back with a single LED flash and this phone unsurprisingly runs on the company’s own Color OS, with Android 4.2.2 underneath. The device, at 3,468 Yuan = 570 USD = 35,700 INR is set for a global December availability. But even then, the sticking point for many, including users from India, has been the local availability and customer support. It looks like Oppo is planning to fix that because they have just hinted in their forums, regarding their Indian plans for availability and customer support. This is a big step for the Chinese company which has, so far, concentrated only on its home and US/European markets.

Oppo R819 now available in Midnight Black variant

oppo-r819-midnight-black

Oppo R819, a super thin and compact offering from the Chinese company, is now available in a midnight black colour variant. We had reviewed the device earlier and found it to be quite nice for the price it comes at, but we were also wary of the device’s build, which was glossy and white. Seems like Oppo has fixed our complaints with the midnight black version which looks way more slicker than the original white version. From the looks of the press image, it seems that the black version will be matte, with the sides still sporting a nice chrome strip. In short, personally, I would have liked the midnight black variant more than the white.

To say Oppo is serious about cameras on its phones is an understatement. Even the Oppo R819, as noted in our review, has a great camera for the price and the N1’s 13 megapixel camera is touted as being superior to others. And marching on, the company is all set to use the innovative Lytro-like multi focus cameras on its phones.
