The company had announced the release of beta version of Nokia Imaging SDK 1.2 in April at Build 2014. Two days ago Samsung launched Terrain Home Android launcher. Today Nokia has jumped up the bandwagon and unveiled its first home launcher for Android.
Nokia has scooped yet another start-up to enhance its offerings for HERE Maps. The company has acquired Medio Systems, a real-time predictive analytics firm for an undisclosed sum. It will use Medio’s technology to give users of its location-based services more personalised results and maps.

Amazon is expected to launch its 3D gesture based smartphone on June 18th. Now, several reports are suggesting that Microsoft is eyeing to introduce Kinect like motion tracking technology in next Windows Phones.
In a bid to enhance its HERE Map offering, Nokia has bought Desti for an undisclosed sum. The mapping startup and app maker uses artificial intelligence and natural language processing to generate more personalized location searches and maps. Desti app is based out of the same research center as Siri and Nuance.

Earlier this month Nokia and NTT DOCOMO had announced a pact to research on 5G technology. Today, National Instruments (NI) has teamed up with Nokia’s Network Business to work on fifth generation (5G) wireless technologies such as exploring peak data rates and cell-edge rates in excess of 10 Gbps and 100 Mbps, respectively.

Nokia’s Chennai plant, the one in Sri Perumbudur that used to assemble millions of phones, had come to a screeching halt when the Tamil Nadu High Court charged the Finnish company with tax evasion, to the tune of Rs. 3,000 crores. With some of the workers on indefinite leave and near-zero production at the plant, the whole ecosystem was thrown into imbalance, with clueless workers, indecisive management and painfully long court proceedings. With the future looking bleak, Nokia had offered its workers VRS (Voluntary retirement services), and about 5,000 of the ~7,500 employees have opted for it today.

Nokia today unveiled MD-12 speakers and Treasure Tag at the Lumia 630 launch event. Now, a smaller version of the Treasure Tag has been spotted on the official Nokia website. For those who don’t know, Treasure Tag is an accessory that combines Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC to track items from a phone.
According to the website Treasure Tag Mini WS-10 is sized at 30x30x5.8mm almost similar to that of the original Treasure Tag. It is also lighter that the bigger version and weighs at 6.2g. The tags have a range of 131 feet and the battery allows for 120 days of standby time.
The Mini version of the device however does not get few features as its big brother. Nokia has trimmed down NFC support for the mini hence, users will have to pair the device manually. Also, the Treasure Tag mini does not have a buzzer and instead uses your smartphone’s speaker to trace your missing item.
The Nokia Treasure Tag Mini comes in white with an orange silicon strap and is priced at 14,90 Euros ($16.90 / Rs. 1230 approx.). It would be available coming months.
Ari Partinen, the man instrumental behind some of the most iconic camera centric devices to come out of Nokia just announced his departure from the company. Not one to leave much to doubt, he also confirmed that his next destination will be Cupertino, California. Senior Lumia engineer, Ari has worked on game changing devices like the Nokia N8, PureView 808 and the Lumia 1020. Partinen’s experience stretches from camera module production all the way to tuning final image quality and has worked on tuning at the ISP level for some of Nokia’s biggest projects.
