Sansui has launched Horizon 1, a budget budget 4G smartphone with VoLTE support. It has a 4.5-inch FWVGA display, is powered by a quad-core Spreadtrum processor, runs on Android 6.0 (Marshmallow), has a 5-megapixel rear camera with dual LED flash and a 3.2-megapixel front-facing camera that also has LED flash for capturing better selfies even in low lighting conditions.

Nubia introduces compact NeoAir VR 360-degree camera that can be connected to phones

Along with the Nubia Z17 mini, Nubia also introduced NeoAir VR, its first 360-degree camera that can record 360-degree panoramic videos and also capture 360-degree photos. It has two 210-degree fish-eye lens on either sides and can be connect to a phone through USB Type-C port to preview the photos or videos captured through the app. It has plug and play interface so it carries out functions using USB Type-C and doesn’t use Bluetooth or WiFi Direct. Canonical kills Ubuntu for phones and tablets, to switch back to GNOME from Unity

ZTE’s nubia brand just announced Nubia Z17 mini, its latest smartphone in the ‘Z Series’ at an event in China, as it had promised. The main highlight of the smartphone is its dual 13-megapixel rear cameras, one with monochrome lens and the other one with RGB lens, offering crisp shots. It has ultra fast focus in 0.1 seconds and supports aperture adjustment from f/1.0 to f/16.0. LG introduced its flagship G6 smartphone at its MWC 2017 event in Barcelona back in February. The company started taking pre-orders for the smartphone across several U.S. carriers last month, today it has announced that it will roll out globally starting from week, starting from the U.S. tomorrow, April 7th through 11 North American mobile carriers including Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile and US Cellular. Google invests in INDIGO undersea cable from Australia to Southeast Asia

Google is building a new international subsea cable system in Southeast Asia, called INDIGO. The new cable system will serve Google traffic between Australia and Asia, connecting Perth, Sydney and Singapore, with a branch to Jakarta.

Next Google Home with built-in mesh WiFi router reportedly in the works

Google is working on a new Google Home speaker that will come with a mesh WiFi router that will allow it to boost Wi-Fi signals around the home, according to a latest report from The Information. Mesh Wi-Fi strings a Wi-Fi connection together with the use of multiple routers to create a more consistent coverage area.

It isn’t all that surprising that better selfies have become the latest selling point for smartphones the world over. After all, human beings are a vain bunch. Back in the early years of the camera phones, we saw the likes of rotating modules and small mirrors attached to the rear lens. Thankfully, technology has matured to the point where we can have quality high-resolution sensors over on the front facing camera too. The focus of the Gionee A1 is on this specific features and it touts a 16MP front facing camera to achieve quality selfies. A camera alone does not however make a smartphone.
