Worldwide PC market ships 122.1 million units recording 53.1% YoY growth in Q1 2021: Canalys

The worldwide PC market, which includes both Chromebooks and tablets, posted a strong growth of 53.1% YoY, with total shipments coming to 122.1 million units. Chromebooks in particular did extremely well, with a growth of 274.6% YoY, while the tablet market alone recorded a growth of 51.8% YoY.

Apple Music may soon feature support for lossless HiFi audio, Dolby Audio

Apple Music, the music streaming service from Apple, will reportedly receive native support for HiFi music, based on code found iOS 14.6. Reports indicate that Apple will offer the feature at the same price and may also add support for Dolby Atmos” and “Dolby Audio”.

Google reportedly testing Ultra-wideband support with the Pixel 6

Last month, rumours surfaced about Google working on their own custom-designed processor for smartphones, codenamed “Whitechapel” or GS101. According to Mishaal Rahman, who is the editor-in-chief at XDA, Google is testing support for Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology on a device codenamed “Raven”, which is rumoured to be powered by the GS101 SoC.

Apple said to launch 8-Inch Foldable iPhone in 2023

According to popular Apple analyst, Ming Chi Kuo, Apple will be entering the foldable smartphone market segment as soon as 2023, with the launch of an 8-inch foldable iPhone. The device will reportedly feature an 8-inch QHD+ flexible OLED display and use a silver nanowire touch solution for the device’s display.

Worldwide Tablet shipments grow 55.2% YoY, Chromebook shipments grow 357% YoY in Q1 2021

The Online mode of education has become the norm for many schools and education institutions around the world. As a result, the market for Tablets and Chromebooks have seen massive growth numbers in the past year alone. During Q1, 2021, the worldwide tablet shipments was recorded at 39.9 million units, which calculates to a growth of 55.2% YoY. The Chromebook market recorded a growth too, shipping 13 million units in Q1, 2021.

Microsoft Store reduces commission for PC games from 30% down to 12%

In a blog post, the Head of Xbox Game Studios, Matt Booty, has announced that the Microsoft Store will soon reduce their commission for in-store purchases to 12%. Microsoft is also working on upgrading the Store in the coming months with more features, and has promised to improve install reliability and download speeds.
