Xiaomi will soon be directly selling phones in India

Ever since Xiaomi, the popular smartphone manufacturer from China, laid out plans for expansion to Singapore, we knew that India was coming. As a confirmation to this, we have a Cnet interview of Hugo Barra talking about the company’s impending entry into the burgeoning Indian smartphone market and a tweet from the head of Google India, who had a meeting with Xiaomi’s Lin Bin and Hugo Barra as a part of the ongoing initiative. Xiaomi recently launched in Singapore, its first market outside China, and looks to expand rapidly to become a true global player.

Samsung Galaxy S5 launching in India on March 27th

Samsung announced their next flagship S series smartphone in MWC 2014 as Galaxy S5, and it is going to be available across 150 countries from April 11th. But just like Galaxy Note 2, India will get the Galaxy S5 before the Europe and USA. The India launch is in this week, and the date is March 27, 2014 same as Malaysian launch date. So on March 27, Galaxy S5 will get announced in India with price and exact model availability (Snapdragon or Exynos Octa Core) but the actual availability of Galaxy S5 is around April 11th globally including India. LG unveiled the L Series III smartphones L40, L70 and L90 and its dual SIM variants at the MWC 2014 in Barcelona last month. The LG L90 Dual and the L70 Dual are now available in India from online retailer Snapdeal. The L70 Dual has a 4.5 inch WVGA display and is powered by a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor. Nokia rebuts Tamil Nadu Government’s tax claim, as acquisition nears

Nokia has been involved in a long term tax battle with the Indian government for more than a year now, and things don’t seem to be getting any better for the Espoo company. Adding fuel to this fire is the Tamil Nadu government, which has recently moved to assess sales tax for devices that are exported from the Chennai Sri Perumbudur manufacturing facility. Nokia claims that these allegations from the government are baseless, as, by law, exports are exempt from taxes. With yet another tax evasion claim, it will be even harder for Nokia to complete its transition in time for the Microsoft acquisition.

Micromax partners with Aircel and MediaTek for bundled offers on smartphones and tablets

Micromax has partnered with Aircel and MediaTek to offer data and other benefits with Micromax devices including smartphones and tablets powered by MediaTek chips, Micromax dongle and data-enabled feature phones. These offers would be initially available across four Micromax devices – MMX 377G data card, Funbook Mini 410i tablet, A090 and X070 smartphones. These include data benefits for all these devices, cheaper local and STD call rates and WAP content worth Rs. 10,000 with these phones and the tablet.
