Google Play had launched carrier billing for Idea customers in India in May last year. Now, it has expanded the service to Airtel as well as Vodafone. Carrier billing will now allow Airtel and Vodafone customers to pay for apps, games, and books on Google Play directly from their pre-paid or post-paid account. Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has questioned Reliance Jio to explain why extension of its free voice and data plan should not be seen as violation of existing regulations requiring promotional offers to be limited to 90 days. Reliance Jio has sought additional time till December 29 to respond to TRAI’s query.

Airtel has launched 4G LTE services in Assam starting with Dibrugarh & Tinsukia. 4G will be offered using 2300 MHz (TD LTE) band and is available through mobile phones, 4G hotspots and dongles in these towns. Airtel Payments Bank, a subsidiary of Bharti Airtel rolled out a pilot of its banking services in Rajasthan last month. It also announced that it will be offering one minute of talk time for every Rupee deposited for first time deposits only. Today it has launched pilot services in Karnataka across 12,000 Airtel retail outlets. “70 % of these banking points are in rural areas, thereby driving financial inclusion and reaching unbanked/underbanked areas,” said the company. The Rs. 148 pack offers 300 MB 4G data and free Local and STD Idea-to-Idea calls. The Rs. 348 pack offers free Local and STD calls to any network in India along with 1GB 4G data.
