The original Micromax Canvas Xpress was announced in December 2014 at a price of Rs 6,999. The successor, the Canvas Xpress 2 was announced late last month at a price of Rs 5,999. Don’t be fooled by the pricing as the Xpress 2 seems to pack in a lot more than the original despite being Rs 1,000 cheaper than the former. However, mere specifications and a cheaper price tag alone doesn’t mean a phone is better than its predecessor or that it is a good buy at the time. Micromax has launched Canvas Selfie 2 Q340 and Canvas Selfie 3 Q348, the company’s latest selfie-focused smartphones. The Canvas Selfie 2 has a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with OmniVision OV5670 sensor and 4P lens. The Canvas Selfie 3 has a 8-megapixel front camera with Sony MX179 sensor and LED Flash. Both these are powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB of internal storage with expansion slot, dual SIM support and 3G connectivity. Micromax launched affordable Canvas Spark smartphone for Rs. 4,999 back in April. It went on sale through flash sales every week on Snapdeal. Today the company has announced that it has sold 5 lakh or half a million units in less than 2 and half months, earning a revenue of Rs.2.5 billion. It has also announced a open sale for the smartphone on July 27 and July 28 on Snapdeal. The company did not announce the number of units that will be available in the sale.
