WhatsApp says it will not limit functionality for users who do not accept the new privacy policy

After the Indian Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) sent a letter to WhatsApp asking them to withdraw their Privacy Policy and TOS update. In response, WhatsApp has stated that the company will not be limiting functionality for users who are yet to accept the update, instead they will continue to show reminders to accept. WhatsApp also clarified that the update does not affect the privacy of their users’ personal messages.

Government of India directs WhatsApp to withdraw new TOS and privacy policy

WhatsApp’s deadline for accepting their new Terms of Service (TOS) and Privacy Policy was 5 days ago on the May 15th. Now, the Indian Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has sent a letter to the Facebook-owned company to withdraw the update within 7 days, and failure to do so will prompt lawful measures.

WhatsApp clarifies its data sharing and privacy policy after public backlash

A couple of days ago, WhatsApp updated their terms of service and privacy policy, forcing their users to accept it before the 8th of February. WhatsApp updates terms of service and privacy policy: Accept it by Feb 8 to continue using the service

WhatsApp has started pushing a new notification for Android and iPhone users as part of an upcoming global roll-out, asking them to either accept the changes in its Terms of Service and privacy policy by February 8 or delete the account. Back in 2016 for the first time after it was acquired by Facebook, WhatsApp updated its privacy policy saying that it will share user’s data with Facebook, but it had opt out option.
