Xiaomi announced the Mi A2 under the Android One program back in July 2018. The smartphone was launched running Android 8.1 (Oreo), and the company updated it to Android 9.0 (Pie) in December 2018. As promised, Xiaomi has launched its Mi A2 smartphone under Android One initiative in exclusive partnership with the search engine tech giant Google. This device comes equipped with a dual camera setup — 12-megapixel primary rear camera with f/1.75 aperture, Sony IMX486 sensor along with a 20-megapixel secondary rear camera with Sony IMX376 sensor to capture depth information for portrait shots with AI. After launching the global Mi Explorer program to offer its fans a chance to travel to Spain, Xiaomi has officially scheduled its global launch event in Spain, Madrid on July 24, where it is expected to introduce the Mi A2, the global version of the Mi 6X which was introduced back in April.

Xiaomi has a tradition of involving Mi Fans in device exploration before the launch of devices, these explorers get devices before the official launch and are expected to participate in challenges given by the company. Before Redmi Note 3 India launch company recruited 100 Mi Fans under the Mi generation program in 2016 and last year, company recruited 50 hardcore Mi Fans as Explorers to test and explore Redmi Note 4 before its official launch in India.
