Intel has accused Qualcomm of creating a monopoly for itself and not licensing “standard-essential” patents at a fair rate as required by law. Last month at the Computex 2017 Qualcomm announced that ASUS, HP and Lenovo will be the first OEM to develop mobile PCs powered by the ARM-based Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Mobile PC Platform with X16 LTE modem. Intel and Samsung file amicus brief to support FTC lawsuit against Qualcomm
Earlier in January this year US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) filed a lawsuit against Qualcomm for anti-competitive practices. Now, Intel and Samsung have filed amicus briefs with the court supporting the FTC’s lawsuit and opposing Qualcomm’s request to dismiss the case. Both the companies claim that Qualcomm uses its dominant position in the mobile processor industry to keep other players out. HP and Intel all set to build Cortana powered devices
Earlier this week, popular audio company Harman Kardon introduced Cortana powered smart speaker. Now, HP and Intel are joining the bandwagon and have started working on Cortana enabled devices. Amazon and Intel have teamed up for a smart speaker reference design with Amazon Alexa. It is termed as factor reference designs (FFRD). The collaboration will enable partners to build new devices with Alexa using an Intel-based smart speaker form factor reference design coming in Q1 2017, as well as make it easier to create skills that work with the Intel-based Smart Home Hub.
