ASUS Zenfone 8 could launch in India as ASUS 8Z


ASUS introduced the Zenfone 8, the company’s latest flagship smartphone last week. Ahead of launch the company confirmed that the India launch of the phone will be delayed due to Covid-19 pandemic in the country. Now the Google Play supported devices list on Google site has revealed ASUS 8Z name for the phone along with the model numbers ASUS_I006D and ZS590KS. The list doesn’t mention an alternate name for the Zenfone 8 Flip, so it is not expected to launch in the country.

This is not the first time the ASUS Zenfone series phone is getting a new name in India. The Zenfone 6 which was launched back in 2019 in India as 6Z, after a recent high court order not to use ‘Zen’ or ‘ZenFone’ due to trademark issue.

To remind you, the phone packs a  5.9-inch 120Hz E4 AMOLED screen with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection, is powered by Snapdragon 888 SoC with support for 5G SA/NSA, up to 16GB LPDDR5 and runs Android 11 with Zen UI on top. It has a dual rear camera setup with a 64MP main and a 12MP ultra-wide camera and a 12MP front camera. It has a  frosted glass back and packs a 4000mAh battery with support for 30W Quick Charge 4.0 fast charging.

The phone comes in Obsidian Black and Horizon Silver colours and starts at $599 (Rs. 44,095 approx.) for the 6GB RAM with 128GB storage version. There are several versions going up to 16GB + 256GB, but it is not clear if India will get all the models. We should know the launch date of the ASUS 8Z in the country soon.
