Xiaomi introduced Mi AirDots Pro 2, the successor to premium true wireless earphones Mi AirDots Pro in China back in September along with Mi MIX Alpha. The Mi AirDots Pro 2 offers up to 14 hours of music playback, packs a 14.2 mm dynamic driver unit and support environment noise cancellation, we recently bought a unit from ShareSave which is Xiaomi’s own cross-border e-commerce platform, and here is the unboxing and first impressions of Mi AirDots Pro 2.

The Mi AirDots Pro 2 look more like Apple Airpods than the first-gen Mi AirDots Pro. Similar to other Xiaomi eco-system products, these feature a minimal design. Mi AirDots Pro 2 comes with a case which is made up of ABS plastic, the earbuds are also made up of ABS plastic, due to which it is lightweight and each earbud weighs just 4.5 grams, even with the case, the total weight of the package is about 50 grams. Mi AirDots Pro 2 is available only in white color, and hence get dirty easily but it features IPX4 water-resistant rating.
The earbuds do not feature any branding but you will find Mi branding along with product and charging information on the backside of the case. The earbuds are held via magnetic pins inside the case, Xiaomi has decided to ditch the in-ear design from the first-gen AirDots Pro in favor of Apple AirPods like design.
Mi AirDots Pro 2 comes with Bluetooth 5.0 support and has a connection range of around 10 meters. You don’t even need to take out the earbuds to connect with a device, the AirDots Pro 2 gets connected to a device as soon as the case is opened, similar to Mi AirDots Pro. The Mi AirDots Pro 2 features a 14.2mm dynamic speaker unit and comes with Hi-Res LHDC/SBC/AAC Bluetooth Codec support.
Both the earbuds have a touch-sensitive area on the outer surface, double-tap on right earbud works as a play/pause button, and double-tap on the left earbud can be used to summon voice assistant. The double-tap gesture can be mapped to jump between tracks with the help of an app (in Chinese). Mi AirDots Pro 2 can also be used to attend calls, double-tap on either of the earbud can be used to pick-up a call.
The Mi AirDots Pro 2 support ENC as compared to Active Noise Cancellation on the previous-gen Mi AirDots Pro, both the earbuds feature a secondary noise cancellation mic. The music playback stops as soon as any of the earbuds is removed from the ear due to the presence of an infrared optical sensor on each earbud.
The company claims a battery life of 4 hours, the case also works as a charging dock and with the case you can expect up to 14 hours of battery life from Mi AirDots Pro 2. The earbuds start charging via magnetic pins as soon as they’re kept in the case.
The company claims a charging time of 1 hour, the Mi AirDots Pro 2 case can be charged using a USB Type-C cable, and a white LED indicator can be found on the case.
Price and Availability
The Mi AirDots Pro 2 is priced at 399 yuan (US$ 56 / Rs. 3,980 approx) but similar to most of the Xiaomi products it is also not available in India.
