According to the International Data Corporation’s (IDC) quarterly and annual report, India smartphone market saw 161 million smartphones in 2021, up by 7% YoY (year-over-year), despite supply constraints due to the ongoing pandemic. The report also says that online market saw 81 million unit shipments, up 13% YoY, surpassing the offline channel due to marketing and festive sales as well as, attractive financing schemes, cashback & exchange offers, and trade-in programs. According to a new report from Counterpoint Research, the Indian smartphone market recorded its highest ever shipments of 169 million units in 2021, growing an impressive 11% YoY. However, the market did witness a decline of 8% YoY during Q4 2021, and the top 5 manufacturers were Xiaomi, Samsung, vivo, realme, and OPPO.
The global smartphone market witnessed an overall growth of 5.7% in 2021 when compared to 2020, after shipping a total of 1.35 billion units. However, the market did witness a a decline in shipments during Q4 of 2021, shipping a total of 362.4 million phones, which calculates to 3.2% YoY decline.

The International Data Corporation (IDC) has released their quarterly India smartphone market report for the third quarter of 2021. According to it, the market declined 12% YoY after 4 quarters of continuous growth, shipping a total of 48 million units. The top 5 manufacturers were Xiaomi, Samsung, vivo, realme and OPPO.
The Google Pixel 6 Pro launched last month, featuring a QHD+ 120Hz OLED display. In the past week, multiple user reports have emerged that show a weird display flickering issue when the phone is switched off and the power button is clicked. Google has acknowledged the issue and has announced a software fix is incoming with the December software update.
Following the declining shipments trend of the worldwide smartphone market, the worldwide market for Chromebooks and tablets recorded a decline of 29.8% YoY and 9.4% YoY respectively during Q3 2021. In a report released by the International Data Corporation, the amount of Chromebooks shipped were 6.5 million units while the amount of tablets shipped were 42.3 million units.
Recently, Counterpoint released the statistics for India smartphone market shipments for Q2 2021 which showed the shipments grew 82% YoY to reach over 33 million units in Q2 2021. The International Data Corporation has released their Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker report for the second quarter of 2021, revealing that that worldwide smartphone market grew by 13.2% YoY after shipping 313.2 million devices. The top 5 manufacturers worldwide were Samsung, Xiaomi, Apple, OPPO, and Vivo.
The worldwide smartphone market shipped 329 million units in the second quarter of 2021, resulting in a 19% YoY growth but 7% QoQ decline. The top 5 smartphone manufacturers during the quarter were Samsung, Xiaomi, Apple, OPPO and Vivo.
