Reliance to test voice services on 4G networks

Coming from an Economic Times article, it looks like Reliance Industries limited (RIL) is all set to get approval from the telecom department (DoT) for testing voice services on its yet-to-be-launched 4G networks. This comes as a surprise as Airtel has been the only 4G player as of now, with limited network distribution.

Nationwide Mobile Number Portability expected by February 2013


Mobile Number Portability (MNP) is expected to be rolled out Nationwide by February 2013, said Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal, according to report from Economic Times. This would let the subscribers retain their numbers even if they move to another state, irrespective of the service provider. Mobile Number Portability (MNP) went live in India back in January 2011 that enables users retain their number when they switch from one operator to another within the circle. India 2G spectrum auction ends, Winners announced


The Department of Telecom (DoT) has announced the winners in the 2G auctions in various circles that ended after 14 rounds. Earlier this year, Supreme Court of India cancelled 122 2G licenses issued by the Government on after 10th Jan 2008. At the end of the 2G auction government got bids worth Rs. 9,407.64 crore, much lower than their target revenue of Rs. 40,000 crore.
