Shipments of LTE smartphones in India grew by 2400% anually in Q3 2015: Report

The year 2015 saw a 20% increase in the number of smartphone shipments in India and a subsequent increase of 12% during Q3 2015. However, the more interesting statistic is that the shipment of LTE smartphones in India alone grew by 2400% annually.

Idea launches Freedom Packs, low-cost monthly data packs starting from Rs. 100

Idea Cellular has launched new Freedom packs, low-cost data packs for prepaid users with monthly validity. These packs provide consumers the freedom from multiple recharges, while giving great value for money and is specially targeted at students, housewives, and new users, who have a consistent but limited data usage, said the company. The Idea Freedom packs come with 28 days validity. The Rs. 100 pack offers 300 MB of 2G data, and the Rs. 175 pack offers 500 MB of 3G data. Micromax is all set to launch Canvas Mega E353 and Canvas Amaze Q395, two new Android smartphones in the Canvas series. The Canvas Mega E353 is already available from online retailers such as eBay. As the name of the phone indicates, the Canvas Mega has a huge 5.5-inch HD screen. It packs an Oct-Core MediaTek processor, runs on Android 5.1 (Lollipop) and has a leather-like back cover. The Canvas Amazon Q395 has a slightly smaller 5-inch HD screen, is powered by a quad-core MediaTek MT6580 processor and runs on Android 5.0 (Lollipop). Airtel launches 4G LTE services in Tirunelveli

Airtel has launched its 4G LTE services in Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu, after it launched it in Chennai, Pondicherry, Vellore, Trichy, Madurai, Coimbatore & Tirupur. Airtel launched 4G services in 296 towns across India in August. Airtel 4G is available to customers across mobile phones, dongles, 4G hotspots and Wi-Fi dongles in the city. Micromax Canvas 5 with 5.2-inch 1080p display, 3GB RAM, 4G LTE launched for Rs. 11999

Micromax just launched Canvas 5, the company’s latest flagship smartphone in the Canvas series, as it promised. It has a 5.2-inch 1080p 2.5D curved screen with slim bezels, is powered by a 1.3GHz 64-bit Octa-Core MediaTek MT6753 processor with Mali-T720 GPU and runs on Android 5.1 (Lollipop), which is upgradable to Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) in future. It has a 13-megapixel rear camera with phase-detection auto-focus (PDAF) to focus in 0.2 seconds and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with selfie flash for capturing better images in poor lighting conditions. Xiaomi is all set to introduce new Mi Protect insurance service plans that will cover Mi devices in case of accidental and liquid damage, offer free home pickup and drop, and free second servicing within 1 year from activation. These plans will be priced at Rs. 275 for Redmi 2 and Redmi 2 Prime smartphones and it will cost Rs. 499 for Mi 4i, Mi 4 and Mi Pad. This was first spotted by BGR.in.

Huawei Honor smartphones now available from Snapdeal in India

Huawei has partnered with Snapdeal to expand it’s online presence, so their smartphones are not exclusive to Flipkart anymore. Initially, three of the honor phones – Honor Bee, Honor 4X and Honor 3C will be made available on the online shopping portal, said the company. Motorola expanded its online presence in India recently by launched the Motorola Moto E (2nd Gen) 3G and Motorola Moto E (2nd Gen) 4G versions on Amazon India and Snapdeal, after launching them exclusively on Flipkart. Reliance Communications to acquire Sistema’s MTS

Reliance Communications (RCOM) today announced that it will acquire Sistema’s Indian wireless business, carried on by Sistema Shyam Teleservices Ltd. (SSTL) under the MTS brand funded entirely by stock. It will acquire approx. 9 million customers and approximately Rs. 1,500 crore of annual revenues by virtue of the transaction, said the company.
