Samsung isn’t having the best week. First, local Indian manufacturer Micromax toppled the Korean giant to claim the number one spot in India. Next, China’s Xiaomi (that’s been making waves in India as well) replaced Samsung as the numero uno maker in China.

Xiaomi reveals: 15,000 Mi 3 units up for sale on August 5

The first two Xiaomi flash sales left quite a few disappointed, after they were unable to purchase the device. Both times, the Mi 3 went out of stock pretty quickly; 39 minutes the first time, and an astounding 5 seconds is what the Xiaomi Mi 3 took to go out of stock during the first and second flash sales respectively.

Android accounts for 85% of smartphone share in Q2 of 2014, Xiaomi hits fifth spot: Report

Android continued its dominance in the smartphone market and accounted for a record 84.6% share of global smartphone shipments in Q2 of 2014, according to research by Strategy Analytics. Global smartphone shipments reached 295.2 million units in Q2 said the report.

LTE version of the Xiaomi Redmi Note glimpsed in spy shots

We have spoken about a 4G LTE variant of the Xiaomi Redmi Note that was believed to be in the works previously, but today was the first time that we got to have a look at the very device. Ditching the octa-core MediaTek processor for a better-compatible, quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 MSM8928, the 4G LTE version of the Redmi Note looks more or less identical to the initial version. The Redmi (Hongmi) got similar treatment from Xiaomi when it was updated to a Snapdragon 400 SoC from the MT6582 earlier this year.

Xiaomi responds to privacy concerns: “MIUI does not secretly upload photos & messages”

Thanks to whistle-blowers like Edward Snowden, privacy has become a public topic of discussion these days, which is always a good thing. On that note, earlier today, an article from ocworkbench claimed that Xiaomi’s Redmi Note smartphone is uploading data to Chinese servers, without explicit user permission. Considering Xiaomi is from China, a country which has been accused of spying on civilians in the past, the issue made its way to mainstream internet thanks to the virality of social media. But it was just one part of a story. We had reached out to Xiaomi to understand what the other side of the story is like, and they finally have an answer. Hugo Barra, the company’s public face for its International operations, has taken to social networks, to explain how the company is, in fact, not invading user privacy.

Second batch of Mi3 units went on sale on Flipkart yesterday at 2 PM. Flipkart and Xiaomi has announced that the week’s stock sold out in 5 seconds. Last week’s Mi3 stock sold out in 38 minutes and 50 seconds, mainly due to server issues on Flipkart. In first sale, Xiaomi reportedly sold 10,000 units of Mi3s. Second batch of Xiaomi Mi3 India units to go on sale today

The duo of China’s Xiaomi and India’s Flipkart is all set to open sale for the Xiaomi Mi3 smartphone later today.

This will now be the second time that the device goes on sale in the country on Flipkart. Earlier, the Mi3 went on sale on the 22nd this month when stocks vanished in a matter of under 40 minutes. Flipkart and Xiaomi would hope to repeat the successful sale sans the server crash that Flipkart had to face.

As expected, Xiaomi continued their flash sale marketing with their first sale in India on 22nd July. This came after a week of registrations, when over a lakh Indians registered to be eligible to buy the device when it goes on sale. With a VFM proposition as lucrative as the Xiaomi Mi3’s it wasn’t surprising that the device got sold out in under 40 minutes of going on sale.

Xiaomi Mi3 went on sale in India yesterday. The Indian variant runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat) out of the box with MIUI ROM on top. Today the unit has received a major update to version KXDMIBE18.0 that brings new features, optimizations and fixes. This is a global update for the Mi3 that is already available in Malaysia, Philippines and more countries, where it launched the smartphone. Xiaomi clarifies: All Mi 3 phones in India have Gorilla Glass 3

One of the major uncertainties regarding the recently launched Xiaomi Mi 3 (our review) smartphone was whether the phone was protected by Gorilla Glass or not. This has been a confusion ever since the company launched its India specific page, but thankfully, @MiIndiaOfficial, the official Twitter account of the company has clarified that all the Mi 3s in India have Gorilla Glass 3 protection for the screen. The clarification puts an end to all the speculation that surrounded the screen’s protective capabilities, as Gorilla Glass has been known to be very tough, since its inception.

It has a set of sensors that monitors your fitness and tracks your sleep. The data can be share to social networks easily with the companion app that would also offer you health advice. Xiaomi launched the Mi3 smartphone in India for Rs. 13,999 last week. It went on sale for priority customers and Flipkart first customers yesterday. Today it went on sale for everyone those who have registered till yesterday, 21st July. Xiaomi India already announced that only limited stocks would be available and over 100,000 people have registered for today’s sale. Xiaomi has just announced the most expected Mi 4, successor of the Mi 3 that was unveiled last year. It has a 5-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) IPS display with 441 PPI, based one-glass solution (OGS) made by Sharp / JDI, powered by a 2.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor with Adreno 330 GPU. It runs on MIUI on top of Android 4.4 (KitKat). It has a 13-megapixel rear camera with Sony BSI sensor, and a 8-megapixel front-facing camera win Sony sensor. It has a stainless steel frame, 67.5mm-wide body and weighs just 149 grams.
