Vi 5G services to roll out in 23 more cities

Vodafone Idea (Vi) today announced the next phase of its 5G network expansion, initiating deployment in 23 new cities. This rollout encompasses key urban centers including Ahmedabad, Agra, Aurangabad, Kozhikode, Cochin, Dehradun, Indore, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Madurai, Malappuram, Meerut, Nagpur, Nashik, Pune, Rajkot, Sonepat, Surat, Siliguri, Trivandrum, Vadodara, and Vizag. Vodafone Idea expands 5G services to Chandigarh and Patna

Vodafone Idea (Vi) has announced the launch of its 5G services in Chandigarh and Patna starting today, April 28, 2025. The company launched its 5G services in Mumbai last month, where over 70% of eligible users are experiencing Vi 5G, contributing up to 20% of total network data traffic, said the company. Reliance Jio Infocomm (Jio), Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea (Vi), and infrastructure company Adani Group were the four participants in the 5G auction in India. They paid a combined total of Rs 1.5 trillion (US$ 19 billion) for spectrum in the 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 3300 MHz, and 26 GHz frequency bands. Vi achieves 5.92 Gbps download speed during mmWave 5G trials

TRAI has been testing 5G readiness in different parts of the country with small cells and aerial fibre. As part of these trials by TRAI, Vodafone Idea (Vi) successfully tested the use of street furniture for small cells and aerial fibre deployment in Bhopal Smart City with a 5G download speed of 1Gbps on mobile handsets at four locations in Bhopal: New Market, Jyoti Square, Prabhat Petrol Pump, and Inter State Bus Terminus. Vi achieves 5.92 Gbps download speed during mmWave 5G trials

During the current 5G trials, Vodafone Idea (Vi) and Ericsson have achieved a significant technological milestone by exhibiting a peak download speed of 5.92 gigabits per second, as per the company. Vi, Nokia achieve over 100Mbps speed beyond 17km in rural 5G trial

Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL), in partnership with Nokia, announced that it has successfully conducted 5G trial in rural area in Gandhinagar in Gujarat using 3.5GHz spectrum band allocated by the Government for 5G trials. The company trialed providing 5G connectivity across an area covering 17.1 km while delivering speeds of more than 100Mbps. Vi says it has achieved peak 5G speed of 3.7 Gbps on mmWave band in trials

Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL) has been conducting 5G trials on Govt. allocated 5G spectrum in the cities of Pune (Maharashtra) and Gandhinagar
(Gujarat). Vi said that in its trial, it achieved peak 5G speed of 3.7 Gbps with very low latency on the mmWave spectrum band. This is conducted in a lab setup of end to-end captive network of Cloud Core, new generation Transport and Radio Access Network in Pune.
