Reliance Jio Infocomm (Jio), Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea (Vi), and infrastructure company Adani Group were the four participants in the 5G auction in India. They paid a combined total of Rs 1.5 trillion (US$ 19 billion) for spectrum in the 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 3300 MHz, and 26 GHz frequency bands. TRAI has been testing 5G readiness in different parts of the country with small cells and aerial fibre. As part of these trials by TRAI, Vodafone Idea (Vi) successfully tested the use of street furniture for small cells and aerial fibre deployment in Bhopal Smart City with a 5G download speed of 1Gbps on mobile handsets at four locations in Bhopal: New Market, Jyoti Square, Prabhat Petrol Pump, and Inter State Bus Terminus. Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL), in partnership with Nokia, announced that it has successfully conducted 5G trial in rural area in Gandhinagar in Gujarat using 3.5GHz spectrum band allocated by the Government for 5G trials. The company trialed providing 5G connectivity across an area covering 17.1 km while delivering speeds of more than 100Mbps. Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL) has been conducting 5G trials on Govt. allocated 5G spectrum in the cities of Pune (Maharashtra) and Gandhinagar
(Gujarat). Vi said that in its trial, it achieved peak 5G speed of 3.7 Gbps with very low latency on the mmWave spectrum band. This is conducted in a lab setup of end to-end captive network of Cloud Core, new generation Transport and Radio Access Network in Pune.
