After the launch of its 5G services in Mumbai last month, Vodafone Idea (Vi) has announced the expansion of its 5G services to major cricket stadiums in 11 cities across India. This coincides with the ongoing India T20 league, which is being held at these venues from March to May.
The 5G service is now available at cricket stadiums in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Visakhapatnam. The company has stated that the expansion aims to provide enhanced connectivity for spectators attending the matches.
To accommodate the high volume of users expected at these events, Vi has implemented infrastructure upgrades. This includes the deployment of additional 5G network sites and the integration of technologies such as BTS and Massive MIMO. According to the company, these enhancements are designed to ensure consistent and high-speed connectivity within the stadiums.
Vi reports the installation of 53 new 5G sites, capacity enhancements in 44 existing sites, and the deployment of 9 Cell On Wheels (CoW) units in the vicinity of the stadiums.
Vi customers with 5G-enabled devices can access the 5G network within these stadiums by enabling 5G settings on their mobile phones.
The stadiums where Vi 5G is now operational are:
- Wankhede Stadium (Mumbai)
- Arun Jaitley Stadium (Delhi)
- Chinnaswamy Stadium (Bengaluru)
- Dr. Y.S.R ACA-VDCA Stadium (Visakhapatnam)
