One of the biggest trends in technology at the moment is wearable devices such as smartwatches and whilst many manufacturers have begun launching their first devices this year, Sony’s already on the third generation of the Sony Smartwatch range. Whilst this year’s smartwatch shares many similarities with its predecessors (such as durability and overall design), it features a few major differences and the biggest of these is its powered by Google’s new Android Wear operating system.

Whilst previous devices were powered by Sony’s proprietary user interface, the adoption of Android Wear has meant Sony can stop focusing on the software and instead look to innovate in hardware and design. Sony says no to Android Wear for now, will stick to its custom OS

Sony was one among the first of the electronics giant to jump into the smart watch category and it has so far launched a couple of smart watches. Until now, both the products haven’t really made it to the larger crowd. Sony SmartWatch does not use Android as its OS, but works with Android smartphones.

Sony unveils the SmartWatch 2 for Android with one touch NFC

Smartwatches have always been a niche at best. Recently spurred into prominence by crowd funded hardware innovators like Pebble, amidst rumours of Apple being interested in a similar device, the smart watch is suddenly cool again, and Sony wants in on the market enthusiasm. While they pioneered a bluetooth watch since 2007, Sony has unveiled its latest iteration of the same – the Sony SmartWatch 2. Made for Android devices running on v4.0 ICS or later, the watch sports NFC one touch pairing and promises several utilitarian functionality to grace your wrist. Sony SmartWatch successor to be announced at Mobile Asia Expo next week?

Tweets from the official Sony Xperia hints at the successor of the Sony SmartWatch that is expected to be unveiled at the Mobile Asia Expo 2013 in Shanghai next week. Sony unveiled the first SmartWatch back in January 2012 with a 1.3” (128×128 pixels) OLED touch display that can wirelessly and discreetly access calls, messages and applications. Sony SmartWatch available in India by June-end for Rs. 6,299


Sony has announced on their Facebook Page that the Sony SmartWatch would be available in India by the end of June. Sony announced the SmartWatch earlier this January. Sony has announced SmartWatch and the Smart Wireless Headset pro. The SmartWatch is a micro display for Android smartphones, to wirelessly and discreetly access calls, messages and applications.
