HP SlateBook 14-inch Android laptop goes official

HP has announced a 14 inch Android powered laptop that is dubbed as SlateBook PC. Priced at $399, the laptop has a 14-inch FHD (1080p) touchscreen display with NVIDIA Tegra 4 under the hood. It is 16 millimeters thick and weighs just around 3.75 pounds (1.7 kg). The SlateBook 14 laptop was first leaked online in April this year.

One of the most interesting products that HP brought to the trade show was its new Slate 8 Pro tablet. The HP Slate 7 VoiceTab is the other device that HP launched today alongside the Slate 6 VoiceTab. Practically the same under the hood, the Slate 7 goes for a lower price point and a larger screen size. The tablet also enables voice calls and 3G functionality which isn’t something unheard of but is nice to have nonetheless. As global PC shipments drop, HP is making a push to re-enter the highly lucrative smartphone market. With the launch of the HP Slate 6 VoiceTab and the Slate 7 VoiceTab, the company have their sights set on the midrange phablets which is a segment that is currently dominated by local upstarts. Competition from global brands is heating up in the midrange 6inch phablet segment as Nokia too introduced its Lumia 1320 recently. We got to spend some time with HP’s new Slate 6 VoiceTab and here are our impressions.

Qualcomm acquires a big patent portfolio from HP

In a recent move by Qualcomm to gain advantage in the smartphone market, it acquired patents of Palm Inc and iPaq smartphone among the other patents from HP. The total number of patents involved in the acquisition include 1,400 granted patents and pending patent applications from the United States and about 1,000 granted patents and pending patent applications from other countries that include China, England, Germany, Japan and South Korea. However, there was no word on the price that Qualcomm gave for the patents.

HP Slatebook x2 Android convertible launched in India for Rs. 39,990

Ever since the HP slate that launched at the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona, HP had started its Android on-slaught with more devices. Sometime back, HP launched the Slatebook X2, a convertible Android tablet with a keyboard dock that made it work like a laptop too, if needed. This is the standard on most Windows 8 tablets and the trend was started way back, by the ASUS transformer, which has been caught up by other companies such as HP.

The SlateBook X2 has a 10.1-inch (1920 by 1200 pixels) IPS display, powered by a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor and runs on Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean). Surprisingly, the full sized detachable keyboard dock has a touch pad too. The Keyboard dock has a full HDMI port, USB 2.0, an SD slot, and an audio port. It also has a battery that would act as a charger when docked.

We’ve managed to get our hands on the red version and were immediately surprised by the good first impression. The biggest advantage of the Slate7? Its price! Starting at just USD 169, HP is ready to enter an already crowded market. So, what’s the Slate7 all about?

I am sure many people have bought the HP Touchpad during the fire sale, some people to use Android on it and some people just because it was cheap and needed a tablet, whatever reason maybe HP is rolling out the webOS 3.0.5 update for their Tochpad which is a clear sign that webOS is still not dead.

HP Pre 3 Gets Secretly Updated To 1.2 Ghz Dual Core Processor

The Web OS running HP Pre 3 was announced to come to come with a fast but single core 1.4 Ghz processor. Looks like HP had a change of heart after the slew of high profile Dual Core enabled handsets. It seems that the Pre 3 will now be coming with a Dual Core 1.2Ghz Qualcomm chipset. The chipset in mention is the Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-CPU APQ8060 1.2GHz which also powers the WebOS based HP TouchPad Tablet.
